colleges,  new college

i am a jerk. please don’t listen to me.

Hello,
I got an offer from UofT, however it says I have to go to new college.
I was reading the reviews you wrote on the web and it doesn’t sound too good. The overweight science kid that wins the girl at the end of the movie???
Am I stuck with this college forever, is it really that bad, give me some good news.
Anyway, I’m glad I got in no matter what the college is.
Also, I was reading there is a cut-out mark for entry into different colleges my first choices were UC, Innis, St. Michael’s with New in 5th place. Am I just too dumb for the other colleges?

i used to be guilty of this myself before i, well, sort of “became” askastudent. i’d hem and haw over all the specifics of these postings and worry myself to death about all the horrible things askastudent was telling me about my student experience. i soon realized that askastudent is about 85% of a true story. the rest are hyperbolic statements usually made by someone who hasn’t slept/drank enough coffee yet.
that being said, new college will be okay. you’ll make friends, you’ll survive, you can switch colleges after a year by writing your new new college a letter of inquiry, etc. but trust me, this college thing is more for administration purposes than anything else. and look on the bright side, you’re in! yay! U of T 4 life!
in response to your other question – a lot of those colleges really want students to put them in first place. UC and Innis are notoriously tricky if you don’t rate them initially first and from there it’s a sliding scale. college ratings shift every year. so you’re not dumb – just special.
cheers, askastudent

I used to live in New, not only that, I worked at the porter’s lodge. I say Wetmore Hall’s better than Wilson just because the 3rd floor Wilson house has great showers. Of course, the new res building 45 Willcocks is everyone’s choice. But the ghetto isn’t so bad. And I know this reply’s a little late but if you’re going to New, say hi to Dennis and Shane at the Wetmore desk for me.
