music makes the bourgeoise and the rebel (never gonna stop)

Hey I’m kinda in a mess right now. Is there an extracurricular activity for
beginners or a beginner’s ensemble course for a student who excelled in music
theory (on steel pan, but pursuing clarinet), but lacks experience playing with
a clarinet and in an ensemble, hungry to play in an ensemble???
thanks x_X

it is true. you really are in a mess. nowhere to play clarinet and the girl you hooked up with at band camp broke your heart. this really isn’t your summer is it?

luckily at U of T, there are plenty of places to toot your flute extra-curricularly. hart house is a good place to start (since they basically encompass every hobby, including guns). there’s the hart house orchestra, which boasts a “fairly minimal” audition process to get in. if jazz is more your style, there’s a jazz ensemble too.

alternatedly, the bigger colleges probably have their own music groups as well. check with the UC Lit (their student council) about their music groups. this is a former list of Vic Clubs with contact information. (sign me up for pajama jammers!) but god knows, there’s a place for you to play clarinet and even if you suck, i’m sure you can hook up with a french horn and an alto sax through facebook or something.

cheers, askastudent

the hart house orchestra only allow in a few clarinets (4) so unless you are great you won’t make it in. I’ve been playing for 10 years and after the first day I knew I didn’t have a chance.

You play pan too? Cool. Sorry don’t have any suggestions for you but upon reading that you’re a fellow pan player I thought I just had to say hi. What do you play by the way?
