commerce,  grades

You kids and your fast DSL modems. In my day we had phone lines and had to wait for things…

Hi, askastudent.
I’ve been searching everywhere and I cannot seem to find (either on the U of T
website or otherwise) what exactly the cutoff is for the Commerce program.
What kind of marks are needed to get into U of T Commerce?? Good ones,
obviously, but how good? I’m currently a grade 12 student in Ontario and
entering 2nd semester.? So far I have exactly 6 grade 12 U or M credits, and my
marks are 80 (advanced functions), 85 (drama), 85 (english), 86 (history), 88
(psychology), and 95 (law). This gives me an average of 86.5%.? Also, I’m
taking Data Management and Calculus this semester, and hopefully i’ll get a 90
in Data to bring my average up to an 88.? I’m just panicking because basically
everbody and their mother is getting early acceptance to Ottawa U as well as
scholarships, and nobody else that I know applied to U of T, so I really have
nobody else to compare with/talk to. Please ease my fears, lest I end up at
McMaster.

?

U of T will always be the last to let you know.? And I can’t really say whether you’re in or not because I’m not as creepy as you think/would like me to be.? But you do have good academic standing for possible entrance to the program.? I?ll directly quote the website for you:

?Low to mid 80’s average plus completion of an on-line supplemental application (profile), listing extracurricular activities such as sports, music, clubs, and work experience.

Now, you seem very concerned about grades, but have you done anything with your life?? Like they’ve asked for on the website?? Hmmm?? To me, you seem like you seem like one of those ?yeah, I took drama in high school for the easy mark/class and I totally rocked it?.? Of course you rocked it, jerk.? You had perfect attendance and made some attempt to speak Shakespeare loudly without even knowing what you were talking about.? And then, years down the road, you?re the kid who says at the camp fire ?oh yeah, I took drama in high school!? WELL YOU KNOW WHAT?!? I TOOK MATH IN HIGH SCHOOL TOO AND GOT A 90.? SAME DEAL.?

Pardon me.? I have an inferiority complex.?

Be patient.? And if you can?t be, then you and your high (in the sky) school transcript can just go to McMaster.

Once I actually got to U of T, I realized it was so huge that they probably accepted anyone and everyone who applied, but just pretended otherwise. Seriously, lots of people. We can’t all be smart.

i applied to ut commerce too, and i got only 4 grade 12 final marks, and they are 98(MHF), 92(Calculus), 91(Data management), 87(ENG4u), so i am still panicing…jj

ughhhh HHHJZ person I am jealous of your marks. I firmly maintain that it’s impossible to have a social life and get the kind of marks that you do… which is why i blame my modest mid 80’s on the fact that I’m on student council, run our school’s performance club, am our school’s dance co-ordinator, and on both fashion show and grad committee. (I’m the original poster, by the way). Best of luck to you on getting into U of T Commerce, maybe i’ll see you next year! P.S. The reason why I have 6 grade 12 courses already is because I took 3 of them last year in grade 11.
It does amaze me though that you have such high marks and cannot seem to spell “panicking”.. maybe you’re ESL, and that’s cool too.
and aska, please don’t call me a jerk! I took drama because I go to a small school and thus am cursed with schedule conflicts, it was either 4M drama or autoshop.

    Well Ally,

I stand by my original comment. I would have KILLED to have Auto Shop at my high school. Having that and Drama credits would have made my world complete. I could have been a little bit country AND rock and roll. And that “jerk” out-lash was more so directed at all of those turds who try and hit on me around a camp fire. Don’t take it the wrong way, and don’t EVER down play the drama class, yo.

I am actually re-registering at University of Toronto to undertake my Bachelor’s
at University of Toronto, applying for Commerce Program. There’s the option of
going into Arts & Science program and fulfill the requirements to gain entry second
year if you have fulfilled the GPA % for ECO/RSM/MAT.. read your calendars!!

I have to speak from experience that the standards at U of T is high, compared
to any other institution. hence, it’s known as the best school in canada. work hard.
and play hard. but remember, it’s just a school. i panicked the first time, too.

but it’s not worth losing your sleep over.

    take care,
    alice alim oh
