“Parents Just Don’t Understand.” – Will Smith

Hi, i’ll be coming to UofT from out of town and my parents have been pressuring me about money, loans, etc. i know things change every year, but i’m wondering if some of the residences are more “thrifty” or less expensive than others?

i’ve gotten my ‘residence reply form’ for New College, and noticed that their res fees have gone up since last year. would it be a possibility for me to switch to a residence that’s a bit cheaper, or is it too late now? Thanks!

The cost to live on campus in a residence isn?t too friendly, I’ll give you that. However, I wouldn?t leave your residence of choice just because your parents are being dill-holes about your cash flow. You can always go to your registrar?s office and apply for grants and scholarships if you?re in any financial need. There are a lot of resources available for students as long as you take advantage of them.

If the thought of how expensive residence housing is, then I would suggest giving this website a looksie. Thrifty, yes. If the idea of living like a starving artist appeals to you, crazy go nuts. I live in a campus co-op house right now. It?s not bad for the summer. I?ve got a friend living at Tartu right now. She says it?s OK for the month she has to live there. Though, if your heart is set on living in a residence, check out this site for a break down on everything. Then contact the registrar for the cheaper college informing them that you want to leave evil, costly New College to be a part of their better, happy environment. The one downfall about doing that, though, is that you may be forced to live at? >>>>>>>CHESTNUT<<<<<<< if you decide to switch because of filled vacancies at the college you swapped for.? The kicker is that Chesnut is more expensive than New College. And then you?d just be a sukkah. ? And nobody wants to be that guy.?
