idk what’s in the water, but “early” and “admissions” seem to be the most common words used by grade 12s these days. especially those who hang out over on the r\/ontariograde12s subreddit (yes, i DO stalk that sub, thank you very much). and then there’s the confusion around how to get intel on admission rounds, which CAN be found out there on the internet, but are still kept a little hush-hush for some reason. luckily, aska has all the info and all the wisdom needed to help you figure out what is even going on with uoft’s admission timeline.<\/p>\n

admission rounds<\/h2>\n

you may have heard that uoft sends out offers in rounds. however, if you try to look up WHEN these rounds are, the first results just vaguely tell you that they happen between january-may<\/a>. lame.<\/p>\n

i can<\/em> tell you, though, that there are rounds in every month: in january, february, march, april, and may.<\/strong> usually, the admissions come out at the end of each month<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

also, i should note that rejections do not come until may<\/strong>. don’t throw in the towel too early.<\/p>\n

another important thing is that the march and april rounds are usually the biggest. <\/strong>so if you see your friends getting in in january\/february and you’re still waiting, DO NOT FREAK OUT! you still have three more rounds to go. most people will not get their offers in january\/february, and that’s ok. no one at uoft is gonna ask you “urm, what month did you get your offer?” and give you a snobby look for saying april. once you’re here, everyone is in the same boat, and the people who got their offers in january are not in any way superior to those who got in in may. chillax.<\/p>\n

early admissions<\/h2>\n

everyone and their dog seems to want an early admission these days. i totally get the appeal of having your admission secured early so you can breathe a bit easier for the rest of your senior year, but the thing is, early admission isn’t that different than “normal” admission at uoft.<\/p>\n

for starters, uoft doesn’t really have an “early admission” program. some schools require you to submit a separate application, or commit early, but uoft does neither. you only need to apply to uoft one time for each admission category\/faculty\/campus you’re interested in<\/strong>. there is also no need to make any early commitments.<\/p>\n

at uoft, “early admission” just means getting an offer in the first couple admission rounds, usually in january or february<\/strong>. if you wanna be considered for “early admission”, the main thing you have to keep in mind is that you have to submit your application earlier than the normal deadline, usually in early november. this past year, the deadline for early consideration was november 7th<\/a>. if you do apply before that deadline but don’t hear anything back in january or february, it’s not joever. you will still be considered in the later rounds along with everyone else who applied by the normal deadline.<\/p>\n

i’ve also heard people say that early admission is entirely based on your grade 11 marks, which isn’t fully true. for ontario students, by the time of the first round in january, uoft will already have access to your grade 12 first semester midterm marks. by february, they’ll also have your first semester final grades.<\/p>\n

other than the extra piece of mind that “early admission” gets you, there’s no real benefit to getting in early. it’s nice to have, but if life happens and you can’t get that application in by early november, it’s no biggie. again, once you’re out of high school, NO ONE will care when you got your offer.<\/p>\n
