Due to the lack of elaborate information elsewhere, I have resorted to you. How exactly is ENG237? What books do you read and what kind of people are in the class? (the latter was a non-serious question, but feel free to answer it as seriously as you like)<\/em><\/p>\n

Oh you poor thing! Your right-hand index finger must be all carpal-tunnelled from your exhaustive search for info on this course! And to think… you had to swallow your pride and stoop to my<\/em> level to submit this question. Word to the wise, when you want advice from someone avoid the word “resort” – it carries connotations.????<\/p>\n

?Anyway, now that you are at my resort, let me help you.<\/p>\n

?a) How is it?<\/em><\/p>\n

It’s good. As a conscientious aska reader, I’m sure you’ve noticed the five billion references made to the anti-calendar. So, you already know that ENG237 had a 78-80% retake and that people are generally obsessed with it. ?<\/p>\n

b) What books do you read?<\/em><\/p>\n

Despite the rumours that Aska has a supernatural mastery of the internet, even someone like you could take the 45 seconds required to find this site<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The reading selection is basically a Cruise-Spielberg lovefest peppered with some obscure works that only serious geeks know.<\/p>\n

c) What kind of people are in the class?<\/em><\/p>\n

This is actually one of the best questions I’ve heard all summer. While I’ve never taken an English course, I know that this one attracts much more than your typical introverted bookworms. Think: trekkie + elective…. trekective… trelektive… eltrektive.???? ?<\/p>\n

This is unfamiliar territory for Aska, so I was forced to interrogate a friend who is of that persuasion<\/a><\/em>. Here is a little something I call:<\/p>\n

?”How to Spot A Trekkie<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

–45-60 years of age<\/a><\/p>\n

–moderately overweight<\/a><\/p>\n

-maintains poor hygiene<\/p>\n

-randomly utters phrases in Klingon (or should I say in “tlhIngan Hol”)<\/p>\n

-keeps a pair of Spok ears<\/a> in their sock drawer<\/p>\n

-believes in the supremacy of Captain Kirk over Pickard<\/a><\/p>\n

-believes the Enterprise could beat the Millennium Falcon in a race<\/p>\n

-is single<\/a><\/p>\n

Even if you (gladly) don’t know a thing about Star Trek… you get the idea.<\/p>\n
