{"id":20177,"date":"2017-01-06T15:06:13","date_gmt":"2017-01-06T20:06:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/askastudent.utoronto.ca\/?p=20177"},"modified":"2019-07-20T15:53:07","modified_gmt":"2019-07-20T19:53:07","slug":"honk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/askastudent.utoronto.ca\/?p=20177","title":{"rendered":"honk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hi<\/p>\n<p>Do you think it is easier to form a community and actually have a group of freinds much easier at Mississuaga than t St. George?<\/p>\n<p>While transferring from St George to Mississauga, if I have five credits, will all my five credits be transferred?<\/p>\n<p>Thank you very much.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014<\/p>\n<p>hi,<\/p>\n<p>wow, another subjective question! i wish i could just say something along the lines of \u201cput on a canada goose jacket, walk 20 steps northwest of convocation hall, do your best goose call and wait for your new friends to flock over\u201d but unfortunately life does not work in such wonderful ways.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-20237\" src=\"https:\/\/askastudent.utoronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/giphy-2.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"224\" \/><\/p>\n<p>regarding friends and communities: i can\u2019t speak for utm since i\u2019ve spent my whole undergrad at utsg, but it really doesn\u2019t matter which campus you\u2019re a part of, it\u2019s all about you. i know that seems really deep but it\u2019s actually quite simple.<\/p>\n<p>friends are easy to make if you make yourself available and keep an open mind. if you\u2019re rude and distant to people, chances are, you won\u2019t make very many friends. when we were younger, we were taught not to talk to strangers. i\u2019d say now that we\u2019re in university, talking to strangers is the only way to go about making friends. you won\u2019t be the only one at either utm or utsg looking to make a friend. during a break in class, maybe strike up a conversation with someone who looks approachable. small talk does suck, but at least after that, you\u2019ll know one person in your class! the easiest way to start a conversation, i find, is giving someone a compliment. i\u2019m not saying that you should say \u201comg you\u2019re so hot\u201d to that guy who should be pursuing a modelling career instead of being in your class, but something simple like: \u201cnice pencil case!\u201d can be good. if they seem reluctant to continue the conversation, just move on to another person! easy as that!<\/p>\n<p>profs will sometimes even force you to talk to the person seated beside you in class. this is usually just so you can have a buddy in class to catch you up if you miss a class, but that\u2019s also a way to meet people!<\/p>\n<p>aska story time: i once made a friend in class because she said \u201ci like your superman shirt!\u201d and then \u201ci like your hair!\u201d and then \u201ci like you!\u201d to me. it was a bit much, but we\u2019re friends now and that\u2019s all that matters.<\/p>\n<p>if all else fails, please try the goose call method and let me know what happens.<\/p>\n<p>in terms of being part of a community, we all have different definitions of communities. communities can close-knit and not so close-knit (? can\u2019t think of a better word). joining a club or being part of a residence can automatically make\u00a0you belong to a community, but it all depends on you and your willingness to participate and be involved. find a club from the <a href=\"https:\/\/ulife.utoronto.ca\/\">ulife<\/a> list of something you\u2019re interested in. attend a meeting or an event. if you like it, continue showing up and see what happens! the more involved you are, the more close you\u2019ll be with others in a community!<\/p>\n<p>if you&#8217;re transferring from UTSG&#8217;s faculty of arts and science to UTM,\u00a0according to this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.utm.utoronto.ca\/admissions\/new-students\/admissions\/collegeuniversity-transfer-students\/university-toronto-internal\">link<\/a>\u00a0all your credits will be retained unless you&#8217;re other undergraduate divisions like applied science and engineering, music, physical education and health, or architecture. if your program is outside of the faculty of arts and sciences, you will have to apply for a transfer credit assessment.<\/p>\n<p>hope this helped! like i&#8217;ve said in the <a href=\"https:\/\/askastudent.utoronto.ca\/?p=19800\">past<\/a>,\u00a0if you don&#8217;t make any friends, a crisp $20 bill will buy you 1 hour of friendship with askastudent.<\/p>\n<p>honk honk,<\/p>\n<p>aska<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hi Do you think it is easier to form a community and actually have a group of freinds much easier at Mississuaga than t St. George?
