always a good time. not really. this is me trying to deal with my issues through positivity and i can tell ya it\u2019s not working very well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/94EQmVHkveNck\/giphy.gif\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to check out how much you owe the uni and pay your tuition, you\u2019ll want to log into <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.acorn.utoronto.ca\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ACORN.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> i\u2019m assuming you have yet to do so, just cos if you\u2019ve been on your ACORN you wouldn\u2019t have this question. just make sure you have your utorid and password and you\u2019re good to go!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">once you get into ACORN, smack dab in the bottom right corner in a REAL big box is the \u2018finances\u2019 section. it\u2019ll really conveniently tell you how much you owe&#8211; and if you click the \u2018invoice\u2019 section you\u2019ll be able to see how that sum breaks down into things like tuition, incidental fees, and res fees if you\u2019ve got them. and if you click the \u2018make a payment\u2019 button, there\u2019s a section walking you through how that works. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">some things you should know:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">there\u2019s usually a deadline for payments. it\u2019s not til september-ish (i can\u2019t remember right now, but rest assured it\u2019s not soon). <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a lot of people flip out if they pay on or just after the deadline, and don\u2019t see any updates or confirmation from the school. they think they\u2019re gonna get kicked out. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">they\u2019re wrong. <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">there\u2019s a 10 business day grace period after the deadline, during which the university will wait to receive your payment without any consequences. if you ever have friends with this issue, please tell them to chill and hold off on visiting their registrar. if you ever have this issue, rest assured that all will be okay as long as your payment is in before the end of that period. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">if you\u2019ve got scholarships, osap, etc. you can<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fees.utoronto.ca\/Page1587.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> defer payment<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. this basically means you\u2019re allowed to register without paying, but still need to pay as soon as you\u2019re able. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">please, please! pay your incidental fees this year. i dunno how political i\u2019m allowed to be here, but the ontario government is introducing a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/themedium.ca\/news\/ontario-government-announces-decrease-in-tuition-fees-opt-out-option-for-ancillary-fees-and-changes-to-osap\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">student choice initiative <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that basically makes fees optional if they\u2019re going towards non-essential university groups\/services. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">i\u2019m a lil worried that a bunch of people, especially first years who aren\u2019t sure what\u2019s happening, will opt out of these fees. but guys, they\u2019re <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">so important. <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">so many of the student groups i\u2019m familiar with on campus are bracing themselves for a challenging year&#8211; many don\u2019t know what kind of resources they\u2019ll have. these are the groups advocating for our rights as students&#8211; things like the utsu, or the varsity. we need the resources, transparency, and positive change these organizations enable. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/5106128\/ontario-student-choice-initiative\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">food banks, disability services, and sexual assault counselling are among the other things this opt-out puts at risk.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/cYYx0b3DcYwOA\/giphy.gif\" width=\"392\" height=\"235\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">we may not be able to scrap the initiative directly, but we can<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pay our fees. the varsity literally costs us like two bucks, which is already one of the lowest student paper incidental fees across canada. \u00a0this has been a psa!
