{"id":22813,"date":"2019-06-09T19:53:25","date_gmt":"2019-06-09T23:53:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/askastudent.utoronto.ca\/?p=22813"},"modified":"2019-06-09T20:06:13","modified_gmt":"2019-06-10T00:06:13","slug":"ones-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/askastudent.utoronto.ca\/?p=22813","title":{"rendered":"ones again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are first year foundation seminars or ones full year or half year?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hi there,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">it depends on the course! most first year foundation seminars, as far as i know, are half-year, but there are the odd ones that run for both sems. you should be able to tell according to the course code&#8211; i explain how that works <a href=\"https:\/\/askastudent.utoronto.ca\/?p=22803\">in this post.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ones, from what i know, are typically comprised of two half-year courses that add up to one FCE. i took <a href=\"https:\/\/innis.utoronto.ca\/academic-programs\/one\/\">innis one<\/a>, which worked this way&#8211; you could choose two half-year courses from a group of four. it seems like now that there&#8217;s no application for innis one, you can take just the half-year as well. i wasn&#8217;t aware of that option when i registered for it&#8211; maybe it&#8217;s new? either way, though, i did know people who dropped the second half anyway. seems like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newcollege.utoronto.ca\/academics\/new-college-academic-programs\/newone-learning-without-borders\/\">new one<\/a> works the same way&#8211; you can choose up to two of their half-credits, with the recommendation that you max this out. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uc.utoronto.ca\/programs-study-first-year-program-uc-one-courses\">uc one<\/a> lists all its courses as half-credit, which i&#8217;m assuming means it, too, is one such one.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>i think <a href=\"https:\/\/stmikes.utoronto.ca\/program\/smc-one-gilson-seminar\/\">st. mike&#8217;s one<\/a> is similar, with the difference being there&#8217;s no explicit option to only take a half credit. their site advertises the program as two half-credit courses, with a !field trip! to some snazzy exotic destination. we&#8217;re talking rome, or the silicon valley.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/ToMjGpxInCZSzD3V82s\/giphy.gif\" width=\"416\" height=\"216\" \/><\/p>\n<p>woodsworth one&#8217;s site is down right now, so i&#8217;ll update this post with that info if i remember.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.trinity.utoronto.ca\/prospective\/first-year-learning\/trinity-one.html\">trin one<\/a> is a bit more complicated, in that it&#8217;ll eat up 2.0 FCEs from your required 20. it looks like depending on your stream, you either take a full year of trin one in both first and second year, OR take two full-year seminars in your first year. <a href=\"https:\/\/munkschool.utoronto.ca\/one\/your-program\/\">munk one<\/a> is also a 2.0 credit program.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vic.utoronto.ca\/Future_Students\/vicone\/About.htm\">vic one,\u00a0<\/a> meanwhile, seems to be the most convoluted of them all. the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vic.utoronto.ca\/Future_Students\/vicone\/About\/Schawlow.htm\">schawlow<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vic.utoronto.ca\/Future_Students\/vicone\/About\/Stowe-gullen.htm\">stowe-gullen<\/a> streams seem to require 3.0 FCEs, all taken in first year; the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vic.utoronto.ca\/Future_Students\/vicone\/About\/Paul_Gooch_Stream\/1617goochcourses.htm\">gooch stream<\/a> seems to be a bunch of half-creds, with nothing on how many you&#8217;re expected to take; the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vic.utoronto.ca\/Future_Students\/vicone\/About\/Pearson\/1617pearsoncourses.htm\"> pearson stream\u00a0<\/a> seems to require four half-year seminars, as well as 1.0 FCE in history or poli sci. i know some of the vics have mandatory yearlong plenaries as well, just cos i had a few friends in vic one last year. what&#8217;s a plenary?
