{"id":29,"date":"2000-06-05T15:48:47","date_gmt":"2000-06-05T19:48:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/askastudent.utoronto.ca\/?p=29"},"modified":"2007-05-16T12:55:41","modified_gmt":"2007-05-16T16:55:41","slug":"i-hope-you-have-a-big-trunkcause-im-sticking-my-bike-in-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/askastudent.utoronto.ca\/?p=29","title":{"rendered":"i hope you have a big trunk&#8230;.cause I&#8217;m sticking my bike in it"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>i&#8217;m really concerned about bicycle thefts. is there anything i can do to protect my bike on campus. p.s. i love the site, it&#8217;s very helpful. keep it up.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>bikes are a dime a dozen on this campus. a friend of mine mentioned that he&#8217;s had 5 bikes jacked since he&#8217;s been here on campus. and i must know at least 7 guys who have similar stories. bikes ain&#8217;t safe. locking your shit up essentially just becomes a hassle for the thief. if someone really wants your bike, they&#8217;ll take it. a couple of general rules:<br \/>\n1. always lock your bike. every little bit helps. make sure this includes the frame and BOTH wheels. you can make ok money just stealing and selling front wheels in T.O.<br \/>\n2. make sure your bike is covered in rust and ugly hippy daisies. if you have a full suspension, titanium, nasa-type-mobile be sure to leave it at home. guaranteed its gone within 6 minutes of getting to toronto. hell, i might even think about taking it. don&#8217;t ever taunt or entice the thief. they&#8217;re bad men who like to steal your gear.<br \/>\n3. whenever possible, try to keep your bike indoors. two reasons: a) robbers can&#8217;t get to it without breaking and entering and b) if it&#8217;s gone, there&#8217;s a pretty safe bet that you can start beating your roommate.<br \/>\nbike safety starts with you! only you can prevent forest fires!
