Hi! I am an international applicant and got admitted to CS Co-op @ UTSC. I have accepted the offer and applied for a study visa. However, I am most probably getting an aggregate final score of high 80s even though I predicted\u00a0<\/span>high<\/span>\u00a090s. The drop will majorly be due to Physics and Chemistry, though Math and English will\u00a0<\/span>still remain<\/span>\u00a0strong enough. Do I risk my offer getting rescinded by any chance? ooo\u00a0i\u00a0feel\u00a0ya, this is a rough situation to be in.\u00a0however, as your true and\u00a0bestest\u00a0friend ever,\u00a0i\u00a0am here to provide some encouragement.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

the first thing i want you to know is that it is NOT joever until it\u2019s joever. and luckily, we\u2019re not joever just yet.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

since you didn\u2019t mention that your conditional offer said you have to maintain a specific average,\u00a0i’m\u00a0gonna\u00a0assume that it just\u00a0had\u00a0the standard \u201cmaintain your academic standing\u201d mysterious and cryptic message that most people get.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

and in that case, from what\u00a0I’ve\u00a0heard, offers are very rarely rescinded.\u00a0you\u00a0mentioned that you predicted your grades would be high 90s, but\u00a0i’m\u00a0wondering if that was your average when you were admitted?\u00a0even if so, a drop of 10%\u00a0from high 90s to 80s\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0seem like a death sentence to me.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

also, the fact that your drop in grades is mostly because of chem and physics (pesky\u00a0sciences smh), and not the\u00a0<\/span>program prereqs of math and english<\/span><\/a>, will\u00a0likely be\u00a0another point in your\u00a0favour.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

another consideration which may work in your\u00a0favour\u00a0(yippee!) is how\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0calculating your average.\u00a0i’m\u00a0not sure if it\u2019s different for\u00a0international\u00a0students, but for\u00a0ontario\u00a0applicants, your average is calculated by taking your grades in each of the program\u00a0prereqs\u00a0(in this case, two math\u00a0courses and\u00a0english), along with your remaining highest grades, up until they have 6 total courses.\u00a0so\u00a0for you that would be two math courses +\u00a0english\u00a0+ your three\u00a0best grades\u00a0in any other upper-level grade 12 course.\u00a0so\u00a0if you calculate things that way… new horizons may be open to you.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

there\u00a0is still a\u00a0<\/span>possibility\u00a0<\/span><\/i>that your offer is rescinded, though. if that does happen, you can <\/span>contact\u00a0the admissions office<\/span><\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0explain\u00a0any extenuating circumstances.\u00a0my\u00a0advice is\u00a0to\u00a0only do that\u00a0<\/span>if\u00a0<\/span><\/i>you get your offer formally revoked, though.\u00a0i\u00a0don\u2019t personally see a point in contacting them prior,\u00a0before anything is decided, as they might not even have an answer for you yet.\u00a0you’ll\u00a0just have to be patient, young grasshopper.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

oh, and last thing: in the scenario where your offer gets rescinded AND the appeal\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0work,\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0a possibility you might get an alternate offer.\u00a0this could be for non-coop comp sci (<\/span>which has\u00a0an approximate grade requirement in the low 90s rather than high 90s<\/span><\/a>), or to\u00a0a similar admissions category,\u00a0<\/span>like mathematics<\/span><\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
