I had a question\u00a0regarding\u00a0switching majors and pre-requirements for the major\u00a0I’ll\u00a0be switching into.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I’m\u00a0graduating Grade 12 soon and\u00a0I’m\u00a0a Group A student.\u00a0I’m\u00a0an incoming\u00a0undergrad\u00a0student starting the fall semester. I was initially accepted into\u00a0UofT\u00a0(UTM) for humanities without co-op. I declared my program of interest as Law, Ethics, and Society.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

However, I have changed my mind to economics, preferably with co-op. Economics as a major is under HBA. I have completed MHF4U (Advanced Functions) and ENG4U (English) which are\u00a0required. The rest of my top 6 average is safely above the required grade I need for my conditional offer. I plan to complete MCV4U (Calculus and Vectors) in July after I graduate. I know it is not\u00a0required\u00a0but it would\u00a0greatly benefit\u00a0me in first year classes as I have been struggling self-learning the material without a structure.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

My questions are:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Would the time of my MCV4U grade being sent to UofT affect anything? (around late July — Early August).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Do I need to contact\u00a0UofT\u00a0to change anything like my department [BA (Humanities) -> HBA (Social Sciences)]? or,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Do I simply register for classes\u00a0required\u00a0for Econ\u00a0POSt? and,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Are there classes that I would not get priority in that I should be worried about?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    the\u00a0only thing\u00a0i\u00a0had to look up was what \u201cgroup a\u201d means.\u00a0for those who also have no idea, it\u00a0<\/span>usually refers to people who are applying to ontario universities that are current high school students within ontario<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0apparently\u00a0i’m\u00a0already old, because back in my day, we\u00a0called that\u00a0the \u201c101\u201d application and everyone else would use the \u201c105\u201d application.\u00a0how the times change.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    sooo\u00a0as for your actual questions…<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    i\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0think that taking calculus in the summer will have any impact on anything at\u00a0utm\u00a0at all.\u00a0<\/span>it\u2019s not a requirement for the program you wanna take<\/span><\/a>, you already have your offer, and you already have your diploma, so i don\u2019t see any reason why utm would care. yes, they will probably get your grade through ouac but it won\u2019t have any bearing on your uni life. so breath easy there.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    you also\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0need to contact\u00a0utm\u00a0about switching departments.\u00a0first\u00a0of all, you wouldn\u2019t be switching from a\u00a0ba\u00a0to an\u00a0hba.\u00a0at\u00a0uoft,\u00a0almost every\u00a0bachelor\u2019s degree in the arts\u00a0is automatically an\u00a0hba.\u00a0<\/span>the only way you\u2019d get a\u00a0ba is if your gpa\u00a0is between 1.5 and 1.85 when you graduate<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0so\u00a0someone at\u00a0utm\u00a0taking law, ethics, and society would get the same degree as someone in\u00a0utm\u2019s\u00a0econ\u00a0program.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    another thing to keep in mind is that\u00a0<\/span>you don\u2019t actually enroll in your program until the end of first year<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0you’re\u00a0not formally tied to law, ethics, and society yet, so\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0no need to contact anyone to change anything.\u00a0so yes, as you said, what you need to do this year is make sure you take\u00a0<\/span>the courses\u00a0required\u00a0to get into the econ program<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0then, at the end of first year you can apply to both the econ program and\u00a0<\/span>the co-op program.<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    i\u00a0couldn\u2019t find anything directly answering if you\u2019d have to worry about not getting priority for the classes you\u2019d need, but\u00a0i\u00a0took a quick look on\u00a0<\/span>timetable builder<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(if you don\u2019t know about it already, you\u2019re welcome, it\u2019s amazing)\u00a0and there doesn\u2019t seem to be any restrictions. fwiw,\u00a0i\u00a0enrolled in classes outside of my admission category in first year without having to go on any waitlists.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
