incoming first year here. in high school,\u00a0i\u00a0took two dual credit courses (you get high school credit as well as university credit for taking them) at an accredited\u00a0canadian\u00a0university\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

both were 200 level courses that were\u00a0pretty surface\u00a0level so\u00a0i\u00a0did end up doing well in them.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

i\u2019m\u00a0hoping to get the credits transferred onto my\u00a0uoft\u00a0record because that would be two less classes\u00a0i\u00a0have to take.\u00a0i\u2019m\u00a0not looking for these courses to count towards my degree or my\u00a0gpa\u00a0or anything\u00a0i\u00a0literally just\u00a0want the credit.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

the transfer credit tool was no help, and neither was reddit because\u00a0they\u2019re\u00a0mostly concerned with degree requirements and prerequisite\u00a0courses and stuff.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

so\u00a0basically\u00a0what\u00a0i\u2019m\u00a0asking is. as far as you know, would\u00a0i\u00a0be able to get the credits transferred? or is there no way of knowing and the registrar can just be like \u2018nah\u2019?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

i\u00a0cannot tell you for certain, but it does seem like\u00a0you\u2019ll\u00a0be able to get\u00a0those\u00a0credits!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

this site says that <\/span>you can get up to 3.0 transfer credits for postsecondary courses you took in high school<\/span><\/a>. so there is def a precedent for people like you! one disclaimer: certain programs (such as comp sci) do have restrictions on transfer credits. i do have a few friends in artsci programs who had their dual enrollment courses considered towards their degree, though, so i don’t think it’s too restrictive.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

the other big disclaimer is that you have to have <\/span>disclosed these courses on your application<\/span><\/a>. i’m not totally sure what that means. if you\u2019re an ontario student, i assume it would be included in the info that your school uploaded to ouac. if youre<\/span><\/p>\n

as for the broader question… i can\u2019t make any promises, and i guess there <\/span>is\u00a0<\/span><\/i>a small chance that they just say \u201cnah.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

i\u00a0would really encourage you to email\u00a0<\/span>transfer.artsci@utoronto.ca<\/span><\/a> to get a bit more clarity. i think you should be fine, but who am i but a rando undergrad? if you\u2019re still nervous i would reach out to that email.\u00a0<\/span>make sure you clear everything up by the end of your first semester<\/span><\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

oh, and one last thing: your transfer credits will\u00a0<\/span>not count towards your GPA,\u00a0but they will\u00a0(probably)\u00a0count towards your degree.<\/span><\/a>\u00a0they will\u00a0likely not\u00a0count towards your\u00a0<\/span>program<\/span><\/i>, however. if you\u2019re going into artsci, most transfer credits will be put towards completing your \u201c<\/span>breadth requirements<\/span><\/a>,\u201d which is basically a requirement that says you must take a certain number of courses in various different subject areas. this means that you won\u2019t have to take as many \u201celective\u201d courses in uni. it’s good for some, but bad for others such as myself, who has some very niche interests that only uoft\u2019s strangest courses can fulfill. i mean, who DOESN\u2019T want to take \u201cwitchcraft, religion, and the powers of the occult\u201d? no one, that\u2019s who.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
