Hi there,
\nI attended Sheridan College last year and had a terrible semester GPA wise because I did not enjoy what I was studying. I am interested in taking English at UTM in the fall but have a negative transcript to my name. I am 23 years old and can be considered a mature student, but am worried that my previous academic record will hinder my chances of getting in. Is there a chance that I can be accepted on probation at UTM?

Unfortunately I don’t think that you can … well right away. The information that they give for a mature is the following:<\/p>\n

The University of Toronto considers applicants based on their academic background, regardless of age. To see if you meet our admission requirements, please go back and select the appropriate level of education and your program of interest.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Annnnd those admission requirements are:<\/p>\n

Admission consideration is based on your overall academic record and your most recent annual average. Competitive students normally have a high ‘B’ average in their college studies, with sufficient academic content, although some programs require higher standing.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Meeeeaning:<\/p>\n

If you do not meet the published admission requirements you may qualify for various humanities and social science programs through either the Academic Bridging Program or the Transitional Year Program. Please note that if you have already attempted degree studies, you are not eligible for these programs.<\/p>\n

Academic Bridging Program<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Academic Bridging Program is intended for Canadian citizens\/permanent residents\/protected persons (convention refugees) who do not hold the published admission requirements to qualify for degree studies.<\/p>\n

Detailed information, including applications and deadlines for the Academic Bridging Program is available through the Academic Bridging Program office, Woodsworth College Academic Bridging<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Transitional Year Programme (TYP)<\/strong><\/p>\n

TYP is designed for those who could not finish high school because of financial problems, family difficulties or other circumstances beyond their control. It is a one-year, full-time program leading to admission into an Arts and Science degree program. Detailed information is available through Transitional Year Programme<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
