What about RLG101Y1? I’ve read (on this site) it’s hard to get a 90+ in
\nhumanities. Well are the FYS half credits easier?<\/p>\n

i’m having a bad day…they ran out of pudding at the store, so i’m eating granola bars.\u00a0 but i really want pudding.\u00a0 so forgive me if i kind of forget what FYS means…i think you mean ‘first year seminar’, in which case, yes, first year seminars tend to result in higher marks.<\/p>\n
as for the rest….your definition of ‘easy’ is no good.\u00a0 courses can be easy for a number of reasons, but if a course tends to require a lot of hard work, it probably isn’t easy.\u00a0 even if a prof is amazing and motivates the students with their brilliant lectures, the course can still be hard.\u00a0 polisci, sociology, and religion can be extremely interesting subjects…they are not known to be among the easiest of first year classes, and because a lot of students in pol or rlg are trying to get into the program after first year, they will all be studying extra hard.\u00a0 the better everyone in a big class does, the harder it is to get 90s.\u00a0 90s can be easier and harder to get in smaller classes, depending on the class.<\/p>\n
final word (for now) on the whole ‘getting 90s in humanities’ business: the students who get 90s are academia nuts.\u00a0 they do their reading ahead of time because they are interested in the subjects, bug the ta’s and profs, and write essays not just based on assignment sheets but on their own ideas.\u00a0 90s unto themselves are useless if you’re not enjoying your education.\u00a0 so read, study, make sure to have fun on a regular basis.\u00a0 if you get 90s great.\u00a0 but the fixation on insane marks could drive you mad.\u00a0 ciao!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
