I am a first year student about to enrolll in the Fall, and trying to select my courses. I’m going through the telephone book sized hanbook I was given and came across a “POSt” which I remember being a “Program of Study”. It says that if I am not enrolled in a POSt then I can not pick courses. But then I thought I remember someone at the orientation saying that first years don’t have to select a POSt. Help me askastudent, you’re my only hope.<\/span><\/em>Andrew<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/em><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

I want everyone to know that Andrew has been bumped to the top of my list because he made a Star Wars reference (whether he intended to or not), and that has effectively set the tone for the rest of this post.??<\/span><\/span>?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/span>It is clear to me that the Registration Handbook & Timetable has performed a Jedi mind trick <\/a>on you (and about 10 000 other first-years). You are looking at the ?Steps to Registration,? and naively assuming that you follow step 1, then step 2, then step 3?4?5?6. OBVIOUSLY, step 2 is a decoy, tossed in to throw off weak minded fools (like Bib Fortuna <\/a>and yourself<\/a>).???<\/span><\/span>?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/span>If you read the fine print it states that ?Arts & Science students are required to enrol in subject POSt(s) at the end of the session in which they complete their fourth full-course equivalent<\/a>.? In the spring, ROSI will enable students (who have just completed at least their 4th<\/sup> credit) to request subject POSts. Some POSts let you in right away, others have certain prerequisites.<\/span>?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>As a first-year student, this is relevant to you because you must be enrolling in any pre-requisite courses now<\/em> for prospective POSts of interest. You don?t have to be Emperor Palpatine<\/a> for this kind of foresight, just look up the POSt in the Calendar<\/a> and read.<\/span>?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
