advice from a non-aska

hihi!! sorry not really a question but a follow up!

im the person the other day who asked about biology minor despite not having pre-reqs and ur advice (plus a lot of desperation and emailing different offices) found a solution!! as far as i can currently tell i can do an ecology and evolutionary biology minor with only grade 12 bio (or permission from the bio120 dept but im too nervous of being under prepared for that lol)!! and its way more up my alley than the general biology so i still get to take what im interested in and wont need to be so insanely stressed with a million online classes plus uni classes just for a general bio minor <33

just want to put this out there both as a thank u to u dear aska, and if u want to publish it, as advice to all the other terrified and confused uoft ppl out there, research goes a long way!! look into everything! every list and link and hyperlink that can lead to another page! if something isn’t the right fit, pick up and pivot!! nothing bad will ever come from looking for and working towards something you are truly passionate about! anyway lol, thank u again!! much love and good luck in the new school year :))

heyyo,

yay i’m so glad i could help! and that you were able to figure out a path that works for both your interests and the prereqs you already have. i didn’t know that ecology and evolutionary biology was even a minor, but it sounds pretty cool. i did fact-check just to make sure (and for anyone else reading this) and yes, you can do the minor with only grade 12 bio!

also i totally get feeling a little intimidated to take bio120 without grade 12 bio, even with permission. it’s up to you to decide what you feel comfy with.

and yes, please research, people! keep this a secret between you and me, but about 75% of the advice i give out is based on research that anyone can read. of course, that’s not to say i don’t have a purpose (pls don’t make me unemployed). after all it does take a brilliant and wise (and nerdy) mind like aska’s to actually turn that info into practical advice.

thank you for the well wishes and best of luck to you too!

cheers,

aska
