failing

get out of jail…not free, though

is it true that you are allowed one ‘free’ withdrawal after the drop date within your entire UofT career (like without a petition)?
i’ve had a couple of friends do this last year. however, when one of my friends tried to do this at innis a couple of weeks ago, her registrar told her it was “just a rumour”.

askastudent had to do a little investigative reporting on this one, but here’s what i found out:
this is not just an urban myth. but there are very specific circumstances to this rule. keep the following things in the back of your hat (well not literally, since they are metaphoric):
* you can only do this once
* the free withdrawal is only for students that did not attend classes before/after the drop date. your professor/t.a. has to concur that they’ve basically never seen you in class. so if you attended and looked up ex-boyfriends on face book, sorry but you’re SOL.
*this withdrawal allows you to have the class basically “wiped” from the record.
*you have to do this through your registrar’s office. book an appointment. dress to impress.
basically the situation is as such: if you can’t get a penalty for late withdrawal (a very different application process), this is for students that have not attended the class or have put themselves into such a mental state that they have forgotten to attend the class and drop it before the drop date on ROSI. or maybe you’ve forgotten to drop it and are freaking out. you can only do this once. there isn’t really a way to “abuse” it per se but the university will examine the situation and act accordingly. they’re not giving these away like candy.
this website describes the situation in more detail.
cheers, askastudent

I have a course on my record that i’ve stopped attending like half way through. It looks like I can use venue to bring up my gpa. The link to the website is dead. Is there a time limit to bring this issue up to by college’s registrar?

If you stop attending or never attend a class, drop the damn thing ASAP and let someone else take your place. You’re not the only one at U of T, holy crap.
