why doesnt u of t st george have the UPass?
the explanation to that involves a long and sordid history. essentially SAC (or UTSU, i can never remember the new acronym) has proposed the idea of issuing each student a mandatory UPass in our incidental fees, but some kids feel pissed at the idea of paying a blanket $200 bucks (or so) for public transporation all year round.
UPass discussion has been in the works for years now and who knows if the issue will ever get resolved. hot button issues involving campus administration tend to evolve at a snail’s pace so the best we can do is email UTS(AC)U our thoughts and feelings (hopefully in acrostic poem format) and cross our fingers for discounted transportation before we graduate.

The bigger problem that was that is was closer to $500, not $200, which wasn’t much of a discount at all. It’s even worse when you consider every single student would be paying this. Thank the TTC for only offering a crappy deal.

does anyone know if this has actually been passed for 2008? or is this still up in the air?
Jen
I think that the cost of $490 (I think that’s what it is…?) would be for Sept – May which would work out to about $60/month for unlimited TTC travel. That sounds like a pretty good deal to me seeing as a regularly priced metropass is up to over $100/month.
I hope that they pass it, but I would want it to have an opt-out option for people who don’t need it.
