the sixtuple decker bacon cheeseburger of freaked out highschool kids

Okay now I know this may sound lame or cheesy but I’ve wanted to go to U of T St
George Campu since I was oh I dunno 11? I know its sounds weird but i remember
it was one summer day in my cousins backyard that I decided which high school
and university I wanted to go to without even knowing what I wanted to be in
life. I am a good student and make honour roll every year but I’ve heard you
need to be in high 80’s or low 90’s to get in at st george, and I saw in the
addmissions book that they particularily look at your calculus and English
marks. My marks are still fairly good but they did drop quite a bit from garde
10 to grade 11. Im entering grade 12 in september and I’ve fast tracked and
taken 3 grade 12 courses in which I’ve gotten high-mid 80’s. I got an 85% in
grade 12 english which im hoping is good enough… along with that by fast
tracking I currently have 30 credits and have techically fufilled all high
school diploma requirments through day, summer, and night school. Along with
that I have 150 community hours. The only problem is im not very good at math,
and I’ve heard Calculus is extremely difficult. Furthermore my school is known
for its infamous math department. What is the minimum mark I need in Calculus
to get accepted? Will St george look down at me taking claulus in privatre
school? In the admissions book it only says that they don’t like students
repeating courses, it doesnt mention summer/might/private school. If you
actually attend St. George and are in the life science program would you mind
telling me what your marks were like in grade 12? Thank you so much =D … by
the way Im loving this site, although it was difficult to find
PS Please do not tell me to refer to admissions as I find tehre website
extremly useless.

mamacita, you are a very worried student…at first, i was going to send you a personal email saying ‘it’s all going to be okay’ and to warn you that i was going to beat this question like a baseball bat, like the garishly decorated pinata that it is. only this pinata will not spill candy, just weirdness. that being said:

“it’s all going to be okay” -someone’s mom

obviously if you’re that determined to go to UofT st. george you should be concerned if you thought you didn’t meet admissions standards. the first thing i have to recommend is that you get a psych evaluation, and visit montreal and vancouver just to see what they’ve got going on. not to say you shouldn’t come to UofT, i LOVE UofT, but if I met anyone in any class who said that they had aspired to go here from age 11, i would laugh so hard that it could give me amnesia. i don’t want amnesia.

don’t worry about your grade 11 marks too much. the university system recognizes that 15 and 16 year olds are too busy going through angsty phases to be judged too much on academic performance, and grade 11 marks are mostly used for students on the edge of acceptance. great grade 12 marks are what matters. community service is also kind of a non-factor. and don’t think you’ll be writing serious admittance essays. this isn’t the United States, we just base admission on those ridiculously overinflated highschool marks. additionally, admissions isn’t going to care whether you fast-tracked in those classes or took them at a private school. the whole calculus english thing just means that those 2 credits will always be looked at, regardless of whether you have some other credits with higher marks. this doesn’t make other classes any less important, and your high marks can still elevate lower ones. highschool calculus is fine, even though every single student is convinced that their highschool math department is the hardest in the province. don’t believe it, it’s a known fact that highschool math teachers are evil golems, and try to deceive students out of their livestock and precious jewels.

readers will be shocked to discover that i am not a life science student. not that i wouldn’t have rocked it, but i pick my classes based on which professors unbutton their shirts the most, and that why i take cinema studies. i asked a friend, and she was admitted into life sci with an 89.7 highschool average. i can’t tell you what marks you would definitely need to get in, but it’s funny: the ones that freak out the most tend to be the prepared ones anyways. if you have any guaranteed 98% classes, take them. sweet sweet jazz band, thank you for getting me into university.

Don’t worry. By the way professors and TAs tell it, all kinds of people get into St. George. I mean, what kind of nightmare class has someone taught if they have to tell a second-year class (three times) NOT to cite Wikipedia as a formal source?

If you’re marginally intelligent, you’ll be fine.
