    Transferring and Flour

How does switching campuses and program work? I’m currently in the employment relations, economics and psych minor program at utsg. I’m
thinking of transferring to scaroborough for a BBA. Is there a site where I can get the information on prerequisites and details on how to transfer? Or is it all just on ouac?

    Thanks

    ???????????????

    Heyo,

You are looking to do an internal transfer, so it’s just done through the university and not on OUAC. Boy?do I have websites for you.

THIS … is all the transferring information that you could even hope or dream for.

THIS … is the UTSC program requirements.

    THIS … looks like fun.

    Hey,
Can I transfer now to U of T downtown for next semester? Or is it too late?
I am in my 3rd year at Wilfrid Laurier

    Thanks!

    ???????????????

    Hey Willie,

It’s too late … like ripping off a band aid baby, like ripping off a band aid.

Here are the deadlines for the coming school year.

    East Coast Represent

    Hi,

Currently I’m a 2nd year BSc student at Dalhousie. I am looking into transferring into BA Architectural Studies at U of T and have some questions.

Do I submit a portfolio? What is this online profile? Will I be required to take ALL the first year courses? Can I take some 1,2,3 year courses concurrently? Around what GPA is required for a transfer student?
In your opinion, is this not a good option, seeing as I will be already completing my 2nd year in science elsewhere?

    Thanks

    ???????????????

    Hey Dal,

Im going to start with the last question first … we’re the eat your dessert kind of posse over here. I don’t think this is a bad option. If it’s a good one, well that’s really determined with what you hope to accomplish. For instance, if you want to be an architect, then switching out of science seems like a good idea. BUT if you are looking to graduate in 2 years, then switching is not your ideal plan … see where I’m going with this? huh … huh …

Your science credits might not be as much of a waste as you might think. The University of Toronto requires that you take one of the following combinations in order to graduate:

Behind door number one : 1 Specialist

    Door number two: 2 Majors

Door number three: 1 Major and 2 Minors

Architectual Studies only offers major programs, so you will be required to take either another major or two minors. AND you can transfer up to? 10.0 credits (which, in U of T world works out to two full course load years). What I’m getting at is you might be able to transfers some of the credits you already have to contribute towards a minor or major.

You can take a combination of 1st, 2nd? and 3rd year courses … as long as you have the prequisite for the course. With careful planning, you can take the prereq first semester and take the course in the second. You can check the course calendar here, to see if what prereqs you need, if any!

No to the portfolio and you can actually just look at the profile application here … no mysteries with that bad boy!

I feel like there was another question … oooooh yes the CGPA. The course calendar states the following as the minimum grades to be considered for the program

“Minimum marks of at least 70% in both ARC131H1 and ARC132H1 are required to be eligible. Admission will be based on the average of marks in ARC131H1 and ARC132H1. Achieving the minimum marks in the required courses does not guarantee admission to the program. ”

The disclaimer on the end there means you need to marks much higher than what they state in order to confirm a spot. Its a limited enrolment POSt and rather competitive.

Why Must I Put My Student Number on Everything

sorry!! i am the same person that asked you about the transcript question about internal transferring. i already paid for my internal transferring form already to utsg from utsc. but the thing is.. i didn’t put my student number in it where you are suppose to under the personal information!! what do i do?!

    ???????????????

REMAIN CALM! kidding, I really can’t determine your emotions through emails … but seriously?I don’t think you need to worry too much

?There’s a chance that they can process it without your student number.

    Here are my two suggestions:

    1) See if you can log on and change it

    2) If that doesn’t work, then?I would suggest calling. The following is the contact information:

” Phone: 519-823-1063 – Dial in, select your language, then press 5 when the next menu begins. Note that 5 is a hidden option and is not listed in the menu.”

    We Like To Transfer Transfer

    Dear Askastudent,

I was wondering if you knew that the CGPA for sociology is to transfer from UTSC to UTSG. i heard that the CGPA now.. is raised up to a 3.5-3.7. is that true? I was wondering if you knew what the CGPA requirement is. I’m kind of afraid. I’m in 2nd year right now. Also, it’s october 15th already, and i still don’t see the application posted up on the uoft website. Also, how will they look upon your first year marks? Cause I’m kind of scared for that.

Anyways, thanks so much for taking your time to read this.

    ???????????????

Guys … what is going on at UTSC. I’m receiving a surplus of transfer questions. Is Scarborough that scary or is St.George just that awesome?!

Here is the information that the U of T admissions website says about an internal transfer into a social science program. If you don’t want to read all the information below it pretty much says that in order to transfer you will need a CGPA of 2.5 … and higher for more competitive programs. To be honest the 3.5-3.7 sounds like bull.?I haven’t heard that the competition is that high at all. So i wouldn’t be scared. ?
Also if you want to ignore the majority of the info, scroll right to the bottom and there is a link telling you when you should apply.

Arts, Humanities and Social Science programs are offered at all three University of Toronto Campuses .
    • You are an Internal Student if you previously registered at the University of Toronto in a degree, diploma, certificate, Pre-University program or as either a Non-degree or Visiting Student.
    Admission Requirements:
    • Admission consideration is based on your CGPA and most recent annual GPA.
    • Program prerequisites must be met at either the senior high school or university level. Applicants to limited enrolment programs must present the required first year university courses.
    • U of T Scarborough programs require completion of a Supplementary Application Form (SAF).
    • The Faculty of Arts and Science, University of Toronto St. George Campus and University of Toronto Mississauga will consider internal transfer students who have a CGPA of 2.5 or higher.More competitive programs require higher CGPA.
    • University of Toronto Scarborough will consider applicants who have obtained a high level of academic achievement. The majority of successful applicants have an average in the B range. High demand programs such as Co-op programs, Concurrent Education Programs, Joint Programs with Centennial College require strong achievement. Internal applicants who have an average in the C range may be considered for other programs. For more info, contact U of T Scarborough Admissions and Student Recruitment Office.
    Information About Transferring:
    • Transfer credits are assessed after admission has been decided. Credits are considered for degree courses taken at recognized degree-granting institutions. More information will be provided at the time of admission.
    • Successful applicants are admitted to a program area. Admission to a specific program is determined by the Faculty/Department once transfer credits have been assessed, and will depend on whether or not program prerequisites and grade requirements have been met.
    Additional Information:
    • Every Faculty of Arts and Science, University of Toronto St. George student is a member of one of seven colleges. You must indicate your college preferences when you apply. Selecting a college is a personal decision unrelated to program choice. For information about what to consider when choosing a college, and for some quick facts about each one visit the colleges website.
    • If you are currently enrolled and have a strong academic record, you may be eligible for a provisional offer of admission.
    • If you have completed more than 10 full credits towards an Arts and Science degree, you are not eligible to transfer to an Arts and Science program.
    • If you already hold a degree from the Faculty of Arts and Science (University of Toronto, St.George Campus), University of Toronto Mississauga or University of Toronto Scarborough, you may complete a second degree only of an alternate type (e.g. if you have a B.A. degree then you may not complete a second B.A. degree). If you are admitted to a different program, you will be considered for a maximum of five credits (one full year) from your previous studies.
    • Successful applicants are admitted to a program area. Admission to a specific program is determined by the Faculty/Department once transfer credits have been assessed, and will depend on whether or not program prerequisites and grade requirements have been met.
    • If you have completed more than one year of university level study, your application will not be considered for the Journalism program at the University of Toronto Scarborough.
    • If you wish to take courses to qualify for a graduate program or other professional programs, you may want to consider applying as a Non-degree applicant. For information about Non-degree studies, please go back and select ?none of these apply to me? and then select ?I want to be a non-degree student?.
What if my first language is not English?

How and when should I apply for Full-time or Part-time studies?

If you are still a little concerned, you can give your registrar’s office a shout and make an appointment with an academic advisor. They are just bursting with information and need able-persons to spew it out on to. Its really not as gross as we just made it seem.

    Happy transferring,

UTSC Bites The Dust … Again

    Hi,
I’m a first year student in University of Toronto Scarborough campus, just because while I applied to UT in high school, I miss the deadline of St.George campus(I’m from Alberta, there is so many differences of University).I didn’t chosen my major yet, but I’m sure that will be something related to science. I been think about pharmacy or computer science or environmental science(If I stay at UTSC I will chose this one), would that be easier I transfer to St.George campus in the Second year? I’m just confuse about the process and the college(in UT) that I will go to.
Please give me more information. Thank you!Sherry

    ???????????????

    Hey Sherry,

The sooner you do it, the better. When you do a ‘transfer credit check’ they will ask you what Subject POSt you would like to apply for, if you have the requirements you?will be admitted.?The sooner you do your internal transfer, the less hastle over transferring your credits you will have.

The admissions website actually has a pretty wicked resource. Click on this link. It will take you through a couple of questions and then tell you exactly what your application process will be, your requriements and the deadlines to expect. Man who ever came up with this resource gets a highfive from us! <imaginery hand slap>

Now for the colleges. You will most likely get to choose that in the transferring process. St.George is home to 7 different colleges. This decision really doesn’t dictate your life too much, especially since you will be in second year (and I’m assuming not in residence).

Here’s the university’s say on college and HERE IS OUR SAY (studies show that people are more likely to click on things that are in capitals).

I hope this helped in you in some or every way!

    forever yours,

    aska

George Brown You Lookin’ Fiiine Tonight

I stumbled upon this site and i was wondering if you can help me out with a major confusion i have about transferring from university to college. Some background information about myself.
I completed high school with an average above 85%. I have also taken University English and Math with an average of 75% and 94% respectively. But while i was in university i failed two courses with an F and two courses with a D. Eight of my courses however are between a B. My cumulative GPA is 1.88.
My question for you is, will my failed university courses and my low GPA affect my chance of getting accepted to George Brown college for Baking Pre-Employment, Architectural Technology, or Architectural Technician?
If it does affect me negatively, what can i do in order to get accepted to one of those programs?

    Yours Truly,
    Elle.

    ———————————————

    Hi Elle,

Apparently this information is hidden deep in the depths of the batcave, or some other super awesome underground place. But here’s what I could dig up. When transferring schools they check out your entire academic history. BUT when transferring from university to college they generally look at your high school marks.

You can also explain your situation from first year. Whether the low marks were due to personal issues or just a rough transition.

In any case you seem like quite the smart cookie and I’m sure everything come up Millhouse for you.

    love and smoothies,

Insert Witty Title About Psychology and Transferring

    Hello,

I am in my fourth year at U of T-SG, within the past year or so I have taken a bunch of psych courses, approximately three credits, and have grown to genuinely enjoy the subject. I am looking to apply to the major at the next round of applications in the year 2012 however was wondering what kind of expectations I should have in regards to admission criteria. The arts and science calendar website says the following:

To enrol after second year, students must have a) a senior-level high school Calculus course, or equivalent; b) a 73% in PSY 100H1; c) a 70% in PSY 201H (or equivalent); d) one additional 200-level PSY course with at least a 70%.

Out of these I have a 78% in psych100 and a 76% in a 200 level PSY course. I have yet to complete the rest. The website says this is a limited enrollment program. I was wondering just how competitive this program is and what my chances of being accepted would be so far, keeping in mind that I have not yet completed all the pre-requisites.

Also, if I am not accepted to the major on the SG campus is it possible to switch to the Mississauga campus where the admission criteria is lower? Would it be possible to witch my two minors (Anthropology and French) as well?

    Sincerely,

    -Erika

    ———————————————

    Hey Erika,

I feel terrible for breaking your heart because … you seem so nice. BUT your odds aren’t looking good. First off you (capital N) NEED (ok capital all letters) to have all the requirements to even be considered to be invited into the major.

Secondly, for limited enrolment POSts …

    Side Bar Ted:

Have you guys seen this? Needless to say aska is fearless would not have flinched a muscle at the secretly terrifying thingermabug)

Sorry terrible moment to have a side bar …

Secondly, for limited enrolment POSts, the marks they give are the minimum that they will even consider. Your chances of getting in are actually a lot lower than what they give. It all depends on how many people apply and how smart the applicants are. The acceptance average is usually significantly higher. BUT your grades are higher than the minimum and you might have a lucky year … if you had the other requirements that is.

You could switch … but it might be more of a pain in the ass then its worth. Check out this resource; it might help you to understand the transferring process.

My vote is that you pop into your registrar’s office and talk with an academic advisor. They can check out your situation and tell you what game plan is best for you!

    snuggles,
    aska

Red Rover Red Rover, We Call Another UTM Student Over

Hi there 🙂 First off, I think it’s great how you’re answering a billion questions because it makes complicated lives a whole lot?easier. Now then, I was hoping if you could answer one my questions.I’m a first year student currently in the Psych program at UTM. Even though Psych interests me, I’ve had part of my heart set out on Life?Science. I’ve taken all the pre-reqs for lifesci and want to switch programs my 2nd year. Unfortunately, UTM has about 10 or so ‘programs?& specializations’ for the life sci versus the St. George campus which has about 50! I’ve looked at them and there are several that interest?me but sadly, aren’t offered at UTM.As you can see my dilemma, I need to switch to Life Sci AND get into St. George simultaneously next year. What’s the process required to achieve my goals? Do I apply to St.George as a LifeSci student or switch programs before applying to St.George? As you can tell, I have absolutely no idea and I’m dying to figure out how it works. Also, do I even have a chance? I would be really greateful if you could answer my questions. Please feel free to add any extra info that I’ve failed to ask and that would most likely be vital to my understanding. 🙂

    ———————————————

    yo yo,

Sure we have more Life Sci courses but really it was the Beauty and The Beast style library that won you over, isn’t it? I know your childhood fantasy (creepy, eh?). Wearing a pretty dress (fellows, don’t pretend you’ve never thought about this), Beast walking you into an AWESOME library all for you …sigh that’s true love!
OR even cooler! Picture a dark creepy castle like the Addams family, or Casper and pulling that one book that leads you throught the secret passages of the castle.
Man, does cool shit c0me from libraries …

Woah … sorry, back t0 your question.

St.George wins – preparing to transfer even before getting accepted

Hey aska longtime reader first time mailer!!! *radio voice*

Getting right to the point I’m one of the people that didn’t go through the?governements planned stages of education, aka, coming?out of highschool and right into Uni knowing exactly what I wanted to do?crying as my family shunns me etc. Graduating in 2010?I’m not back in highschool getting my science credits in hopes of one day?becoming a neurobiologist! My question 2 parts, if I get accepted into?UTSC for the september semester for philosophy and take all science courses?would I be able to transfer second year into UTSG for the science program??Also, have I hindered my chances of getting accepted since I’m going back to?school another semester? I look forward to your awesomeness.

    Live long and prosper!

    ???????????????

    Why hello there radio announcer,

Yes and no … wait did I answer those in the right order.

No you have not hindered your chances of getting accepted. If you have repeated courses and it comes down to you and a student who has not repeated courses than maybe yeeees. But in general (and general answers are sometimes more comforting) you’re good to go.

Yes, you can transfer, but you have to get babilicious grades. If you want you can check out the process to prepare yourself … HERE.

wanted: a genie to grant wishes

Okay, so I’m a first-year University of Toronto student at the Mississauga campus. My grades aren’t bad, but they’re not the best. I’m expecting a GPA somewhere between a 2.4 and a 2.7 by the end of this year. and I’m currently doing my application for UofT St. George. So, I’m going to be be honest. I want to get into St. George in any way. I heard the humanities majors are pretty easy to get into, but which ones specifically? I was considering International Relations, Art History or anything else really. So which ones have the lowest/most reasonable GPA requirements and no required courses (or required courses that I would have fulfilled by the end of this year)? My courses this year are ECO100Y5, MGT120Y5, PSY100Y5 and a I took a PHL285H5. I know these are 3.5 credits, but I also have 2 credits from my high school IB Diploma, one for Management and one for English. So that means I have 5.5 credits now. Hope this was enough information. A quick response would be appreciated as I’m planning on sending my application in the next few days.
    Thank you,
    Sarah

Justin Bieber … just kidding, transfer question

    Part One

    Good afternoon,

I’m a first year student at a university in Quebec (an English one), I’ve applied to transfer to U of T St George and I’ve got a few questions. It
says that most transfer students have a B average. Mines a B- because of, well, my first semester at college ever. Will they toss my application in
the bin or wait to see a second round of marks from the winter semester? Also, if things turn out well and I get accepted, will I be admitted into
year 1 or year 2? Finally, I’ve requested to live in residence with Woodsworth as my first choice. Should I get a late acceptance, what are my
chances of there being space left in the residence? I hear it’s not everyone’s first choice which seems like good news for me.

    THANKS GUYS!

    Meaghan

    Part Two

    Hello again,

Sorry to bombard with emails but I have another question that I forgot to mention. Why are the admissions officers so hard to get a hold of? I’ve
tried calling the number on the admissions contact page every day at different times and I am constantly getting the busy signal. I’m trying to
contact someone to talk about my situation to because transferring is, to be melodramatic, a matter of life or death for me at the moment. Is there someone else I can contact that will actually pick up the phone?

I look forward to hearing back from you!!

    Meaghan

    ???????????????

    Alrighty Meaghan, here we go

    1) While they do stand by a firm B average, the admissions and awards website also states:

Admission consideration is based on your postsecondary studies and your most recent annual average, although we will review your entire academic record.

So there is still some hope based on the rest of your academic records.

    2) Whether you are admitted into first or second year is based on how many credits that are transferred. If 3.5 or less credits are transferred, you will be considered to be in first year

    3) First years are guaranteed a spot in residence (this may be different for transfer students), it will be harder to get in as a second but it really depends on how many first students apply.

    intermission/4 shots-

    4) The phone number for admissions and awards it: 416-978-2190. I called got a busy signal, waited 4 sec, called again and got through. If you really want to talk to someone repeat those steps until someone answers.

Good luck with your life or death situation.

    Forever yours,

incomplete transfer … and snow day

Hello, I am a student at UTSC and I applied to transfer internally to UTSG. My application status reads “Application reviewed – file incomplete”. However, an official final transcript showing all my subjects studied and grades obtained have not been recieved yet by Admissions and Awards.

Should I be worried by my application status which reads “file incomplete”?

    Thank you.

    ???????????????

    yo gee,

I’m going to say that the obvious answer is that it is incomplete because the final transcripts have not been received. Saying that, U of T likes to throw little curve balls every once in awhile like not closing the St.George campus when all other campus’ and schools have a snow day. Not bitter.

I would give the transfer office a shout just to confirm my suspicians.

    Passionately your,
    Aska
