Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana

I know you get a lot of questions about switching colleges, but mine is a little different. What REASONS can I use to help me switch into a different college.. I don’t have a very good one.

?

Let’s engage in some semantic analysis and try to figure out the oddity that lurks inside your statement. You obviously want to switch colleges. But then you write: “I don’t have a very good one (a reason, that is)”. There seems to be an ample amount of ambiguity in that last declaration. I mean, are you saying that your reason for wanting to switch is not valid? Why then, do you want to change your college? For no reason?

?

The other interpretation, which I think is what you meant, is that you do have a reason, but you believe it won’t be accepted by the desired college, because ?it’s not what they’re looking for’ in a request for transfer. Now for that I have to say, after consulting with some pretty knowledgeable college professionals, that there is no one good reason. Given that college transfers are pretty rare, especially midway through the term, it’s really an individual, case by case thing.

So dig in deep and ask yourself why you want out- Is it because of social dissatisfaction? A program that you’re taking in another college and feel very connected to that specific environment? Do you feel lack of support of any kind from your college? Is it a combination of reasons?

What I’m saying is that there are no set criteria that grant a college transfer. Plus, every college takes different aspects into consideration. ?I do know, for example, that just not liking your residence is NOT a good reason, because you might be transferred to another college, but not to its residence (unless there’s some sort of extreme situation at your rez, but then other authorities should be addressed…). It’s possible though, that it would be valid in addtion to other reasons. But those have to exist.

So do try to come up with something that really exists, and try to articulate that in the most honest, heartfelt fashion that you can. Give it a go, and let me know what happens.
