i’m really concerned about bicycle thefts. is there anything i can do to protect my bike on campus. p.s. i love the site, it’s very helpful. keep it up.
bikes are a dime a dozen on this campus. a friend of mine mentioned that he’s had 5 bikes jacked since he’s been here on campus. and i must know at least 7 guys who have similar stories. bikes ain’t safe. locking your shit up essentially just becomes a hassle for the thief. if someone really wants your bike, they’ll take it. a couple of general rules:
1. always lock your bike. every little bit helps. make sure this includes the frame and BOTH wheels. you can make ok money just stealing and selling front wheels in T.O.
2. make sure your bike is covered in rust and ugly hippy daisies. if you have a full suspension, titanium, nasa-type-mobile be sure to leave it at home. guaranteed its gone within 6 minutes of getting to toronto. hell, i might even think about taking it. don’t ever taunt or entice the thief. they’re bad men who like to steal your gear.
3. whenever possible, try to keep your bike indoors. two reasons: a) robbers can’t get to it without breaking and entering and b) if it’s gone, there’s a pretty safe bet that you can start beating your roommate.
bike safety starts with you! only you can prevent forest fires! (what the hell am i rambling about?!?!?)
cheers,
