UTM

sneaky students ruin it for everyone again

Hi,

UTM (and possibly other campuses) have changed an enrolment policy. In the past, after wait lists ended, you used to be able to enroll in the course on ROSI if a spot opened up (by obnoxiously checking ROSI). Now however, the day that wait lists end is also the last day to add a course for that term. I’m wondering why this is the case because if I’m 20something on the wait list then my chances of getting into the course are slim. Is there any way to work around this? And if I’m a student planning to graduate who needs the course from a required list (but there are alternatives available…not good ones) then what can I do to try to get into the course? I know there used to be and maybe still is a petition to apply for late course enrollment and can the registrar or faculty advisor do anything if a spot opens up past the wait list end date?

Thanks

Hey hey,

So I just called the folks over at UTM and they were actually pretty honest about what was going on. That policy is new to UTM … and from what I understand just UTM. Students were starting to get their knickers in a knock about the free-for-all week. Apparently students would team up with their friends. One would drop the course and tell their friend to add it right away. Students were getting all snotty and saying this wasn’t fair … personally I think it’s a little clever.

Unfortunately, the Dean’s Promise doesn’t apply in this situation. If there were no other options then they place you in the course.

Honestly, there’s no way around it if you have alternate options.

my heart will go on,
