laptop or desktop: askastudent knows nothing of computers

hi
i’m thinking about buying a computer, but i’m not sure whether to get a notebook
or a desktop. got any advice?
thanx

if you are buying a computer, ask someone who knows something about computers. i still use wordperfect 3.1. you know, the one with a blue screen? yeah, i definately have to upgrade sometime. oh well, my parents still use their commador 64. at least i have dos.
i suggest you do some shopping around. hit a futureshop or something of the like to get major explanations of the pros and cons of different brands, then hit the smaller unfranchised places to score some competitive prices. always buy the warranty, even if it costs extra. in my experiences, the longer the waranty, the longer the thing will hold together. you know how headphone break one month after the year long replacement waranty, and cars last glitch-free for the first five years? yeah, well, at least you don’t have the headaches for that grace period.
think about what you need it to do for you. don’t get a nasa computer if you are only typing essays. and always remember that no matter how nice a salesperson seems, s/he is only trying to make the sale – propaganda machines. use this to your advantage and talk the price down, or get them to throw in the cables or the printer or something.
cheers,
askastudent
