a long distance relationship with the library

Hello,

Are we allowed to access the library and online catalogues at UofT if suspended?

———————————————

Hey!

Did you know you can have a livechat with a librarian? That is actually the coolest thing ever. I cannot handle this.

Anyhow, in this conversation I came to understand that you won’t be able to take out books (naturally), but you won’t have any problems with using books in the library. As for the online resources, you’ll be able to login using the barcode number and PIN until the end of the September following your suspension.

This was actually a very difficult question to work with! I feel like no one has dealt with this before.

But I mean, if you’re suspended, why the need for UofT access anyway?

xoxo,

aska

This is a good answer to the question, but I’d like to elaborate on it–anyone with internet access can use the U of T Libraries catalogue to see what items we have, not just holders of a TCard. And all members of the public are welcome to use books within our libraries (Robarts of course excepted).

However, if you want to access electronic databases, or online journals due to publisher restrictions most of these require an active TCard.

And why the interest if someone is suspended? Just because someone is suspended doesn’t mean they have no interest in learning or reading. Being a student at UTL gives you access to a huge range of electronic resources — current newspapers, current magazines, manuals to learn IT skills, and more — it’s not all journals about microeconomics [insert your own boring journal topic here]!
