Dear Aska,
?
How does UofT feel about summer school classes? I want to go this summer to help bring up my chemistry mark – I didn’t fail, and it’s not even a horrible mark by most people’s standards ( I got an 80). I just want to bring it up and try to understand the subject more before I go to university. Also, I want to bring it up as much as possible to try and get an entrance scholarship (I’m really close!).Thanks!??
Seeing as though we have summer school classes at U of T, I don?t think that we feel badly about it at all.? 80% is a stellar mark, and the fact that you want to do even better is pretty impressive, and kind of lame.? But, I mean, wanting to understand a subject better is just the dedication and curiosity the university salivates over.? And thanks for rubbing in the fact that you?re smart enough for an entrance scholarship, loser.? I hope it?s just enough to visit the ice cream truck on St. George St.

So does that mean I can take remedial chem and they will look at my grade? I still don’t really understand. I’m not sure what they do with both grades and if they will consider the upgraded one.
I am finishing gr12 if you need to know..

Taking two different chemistry courses isn’t “upgrading” your mark. Aren’t there summer school courses that last 2 weeks where you just upgrade the mark you got in the regular academic year? Yes, they’ll still look at your grade, but if it’s remedial, and you also have a credit in a more advanced one, they’re going to take the advanced chem mark into a larger consideration. Though, having another high grade on your transcript helps to bring up your average and that’s generally the most important thing.
No, I didn’t need to know that you were finishing grade 12. But, thanks?

That’s what I mean, I want to take remedial 12U chem and the course is two weeks. Since I finished 12U chem last semester, I couldn’t take the accelerated course even if I wanted to.
So what should I do – should I go to summer school? All I want to do is bring up my chemistry mark.
And sorry for continually posting but I need to know. D:

I think that this is a question for your high school guidance counselor if all you want to do is bring up your chem mark. But, U of T will have already received your grades by the time you do go to summer school, and it doesn’t matter for scholarship purposes whether or not your mark is brought up. This is because you’ve already been assessed for a scholarship based on your mid term marks IF you’re planning on attending U of T this academic year (September 2008). Earlier on I was under the impression that you just wanted a better understanding of the subject so that learning would be easier later. That’s really what you should focus on, not on bringing up a mark that is already decent, anyway. Don’t waste your time in your last summer before leaving home.

Oh, ok. That’s what I wanted to know, whether or not they would count it toward the adm scholarship. My guidance counsellor told me it differs from school to school and that I should phone U of T hehe.
I do want to understand it better, but I suppose you are right (of course, you’ve been in this a lot longer than me).
Thank-you very much!! ^^
