Is there a media source in Canada that isn’t affected by its owners’ economic/political/social position? I just read a frightening story in the Varsity about the biases of national editorials, but it didn’t suggest any alternatives. I know that corruption of information is a problem in North America, but I can’t find people actually taking action to inhibit it.
well, usually i try not to follow the news to tell you the truth, but i did happen upon that varsity article. that’s the problem with using information distribution as a source of capital, you begin manipulating the information to enhance the income. there are alternative media sources, and if i am overtaken by the urge to enter the world of current events, i go to the independent media source and use it as a comparison to any other mainstream sources that i find. also, if you are looking for local news, try free papers, or student papers (they’re often a bit over the top, you know how excitable kids are these days); they both are not usually tied to any specific sources of income, and hence have clearer editorial and moral standpoints. that of course is my cynical bias though.
