It’s all about life handing you a fastball and trying to decide whether you want to hold onto it or just let it fly by.
My question is… is there a REAL benefit of getting a Bachelor rather than an HONOURS Bachelor degree. It’s pretty obvious that the HONOURS Bachelor degree sorta puts a flashing neon sign saying “I’ve done one more year of work, thus I’m more educated” but I was wondering if ppl follow this route for a REAL reason other than the superficial title that some ppl own up to.
well, there are a couple of reasons to get an honours, the first one being that UofT no longer offers a 3 year program to incoming students. you can only get a b.a. if you enrolled before 2000-2001. another reason is that 4th year courses are smaller, more intensive, more interactive. basically a totally deviation than what you get used to in 1st and 2nd years. another issue is that you don’t need a HBa for many of the professional faculties, such a medicine and law. so if you are using undergrad as a route to a profession, you can swing at the fastball and drive it out of the park.
some people do it for the superficial title, just as some people go to UofT for the brandname degree and some people eke their way through their degrees to flaunt their diploma, but who have no education to back it up. other people do it for the education, the experience, and the opportunity to begin putting three years of spoon-fed information to use in the classroom. some people don’t need to prove themselves in this way, and don’t bother with it. so there you have it.
