Can I do a major in American History? In the course calendar it is not listed, but I was curious if it was still possible to do one…
the way that the history department works is that you need certain courses to complete the programs requirements. for a major you need:
1 100-series
1 400-series
2 300- or 400-series
1 asia/africa/middle east
1 canada/usa/latin america
1 europe
1 premodern
7 courses total
this in addition to your degree requirements (distribution reqs, this many 400, only 6 100, yada yada yada). essentially, you can take 4 american histories if you work it right, because obviously asia/africa/middle east, europe, and premod courses cannot be american, although you might be able to find courses that relates to both. look into it in the calendar here’s the history department’s website you may be able to discern some more info, but i doubt it. check it out for contact info in case ya wanna talk to someone there.
there is also the specialist program of course, in which you take 10-12 history courses, increasing your odds, i’d wager.
