colleges,  st. mike's,  switching

st mikes and atheism, a match made in houston…

Hey,
I got into U of T which makes me quite the happy girl. However I was offered admission to St. Michael’s College which poses a problem as I have no God and that seems to be a key player there. Is it possible to switch colleges at U of T or are you where they put you intially for all four years. Also, if I cant switch what is St. Mikes about anyways? Is it that religous?
Thanks,

congrats. so you’re coming to st mike’s, are ye? well, if you want to switch, your application will be considered at another college in the same way that it was considered at st. mikes. however, there are some important differences. residence for example. it is very unlikely that you will get into another res at this point, which is fine if you don’t need residence, but coming from the land of george w., you probably don’t have anything else lined up at present. here’s their website, but it’s pretty boring.

you can also transfer colleges after first year, in april, if you really hate it there. so no, you are not stuck there for all four years. but to tell you the truth, you won’t hate it for the catholics. what i mean by that is that religion is not a huge focus of the college. you can participate or not, it is not obligatory. there are no inquisitions; mother church got over that kick years ago.

basically, st mikes is just another college. it will determine but not limit the people that you meet. it’s a big college and not nearly all of the people are catholic. just take my advice and remember to go to the mardi gras party. what a rocker. remember that outrageously fun and interesting people exist everywhere, catholic colleges included, you just have to root them out.

cheers,
