cinema studies, flim makers, and hollywood north

This is a great site guys! Thanks for all the info.Alright, I want to go into film and I know UT has a cinema studies program which “studies” film but i just wanted to know if there is any sort of film making community there? also are there any film-esque jobs avaible in toronto? and (just one more i swear!) what is the general consensus on the cinema studies program? good? crap? might as well spent the time attempting to dig to china?thanks for everything.the pleasure was mine.

there aren’t any film making courses at UofT, but if you are looking for aspiring film makers, innis is the place to find them. really, i am not kidding. *product plug: some UofT alumni film makers: Jewish, Rasky, Egoyan, Sullivan. some innis cinema studies alumni film makers: Jim Shedden, Ron Mann.* i don’t know why all these people went to UofT, when they should be going to college to take film making, but i guess some education is better than no education. all they need is some organization . maybe you are their answer. because potential is never anything more than potential without organization.

film-esque jobs in toronto? ha! haven’t you ever heard of hollywood north? basically toronto is leeching off the american film industry due to the pathetic state of the canadian dollar. toronto: you may remember it from such films as speed, true romance, and adventures in babysitting. thing is that to get on a crew you need experience, which means volunteer time, baby.

cinema studies: well, basically you sit on your ass all day long and watch and watch movies, or “films” as they call them. yeah, you have to do some work to. like write essays about “films”. it’s supposed to be a pretty sweet deal.

cheers,
