St. George,  switching,  UTM

your secret is safe with me

Hi,
I just finished my 3rd year in UTM and wanna tranfer to st george, if possible.

My gpa is really low (say, around 2.0) but it’s ok for me to give up all the marks in UTM, even some of the courses.

Is it possible and who am I supposed to talk to?

thx

Well… as much as I hate to be the bearer of bad news, there’s not much you can do in your current situation. First of all, what’s the use of transferring to UTSG in your 3rd year, when the maximum amount of credits you can transfer with you is 10. Assuming that you have finished at least 10 FCEs, you’d be losing credits that you earned upon transfer. Now this is where you’re like “yeah I don’t mind giving up all my failed courses and mediocre grades”. But, you see, it doesn’t really matter what you think… because you can’t pick and choose which courses you want to schlep with you. When you submit your transcript to admissions, they look at the whole thing, including your GPA, which won’t suffice for a transfer (minimum is 2.5). And even if you had the appropriate average, unless you’re transferring to St. George for a program that isn’t offered at UTM, no bureaucrat in his/her right mind would approve your transfer. You can call admissions, but I reckon they’ll say the same.

Wow, this is getting depressing.

Here’s what I’d do: forget this silly dream of transferring to downtown and becoming a hipster. Stay at UTM and avoid the red-tape nightmare. Instead, work hard on improving your GPA in the time that remains. You can actually take courses at St. George, if that’s what you fancy, without having to officially transfer. Actually, if the courses offered here are transferable to your UTM POSt, you can take courses at St. George till you graduate (10 credits max). That way you can pretend you f*&^%d the system, while enjoying the hustle and bustle of a REAL city. No one has to know.
