punishment for a late decision?

Hi, I am a transfer student starting 2nd year in September. I have a question about subject posts- do I have to pick right away or can i do some of the requirements first and then pick. I want to do a history specialty, however I do not have a full year history course, will it let me select history specialty, or do i have to do the course first? Also, when will I be able to select classes?
thanks!

Let me be the first to say ?Welcome?.

After your first year, you do have to choose a subject post. In order to be a history specialist (to directly quote the handbook/course calendar) you need to have at least four credits, two of which include HIS credits, one of which must be a 100-level HIS course. A mark of at least 73% in two HIS courses is required.

The history program is a type 2 subject Post, so basically marks are important. There are two different rounds to apply for your specialty: April 1 ? May 19, and July 7 ? August 24. If you are entering second year, you need to have an active PoST on ROSI.

Now, U of T doesn?t transfer credits very well, and it could be that some become obsolete in the process of coming over to our side (I guess it?s like punishment for choosing us later rather than sooner). If that happens, your second year status may be actually bumped down to a first year one, meaning that you wouldn?t need to apply for the post until you completed this next coming school year.

If you are credited as a second year student, I would suggest choosing a post that is a type 1 (e.g. English) and then take all of your needed credits to get into the history specialist, and then change it during the subject post request rounds at the end of the next school year.
