breakDOWN

Could you tell me how to survive the first year? Does everybody get a breakdown sometime in October or November? And how do they get out of it?

holy shit yes, everybody has that break down i gaurantee. even me, big manly man, spent hours balling like a school girl in my room.
first year is bloody rough. for most it’s the first time being away from home, living on your own, it’s difficult to make friends, first year courses are a thousand times harder than anything you’ve ever done academically in high school, end of term means low on finances, by then your room mates are starting to suck or have formed alliances.
damn skippy you’ll break down. i can’t believe you held out this long. the only advice is to take it in stride. keep up (as best possible) with the work and try to simplify your life until christmas.
and if you get really down, find an outlet. i can attest to what happens when you bottle everything up inside. far too often people don’t make it to 2nd year, or any other year for that matter. maybe some physical fitness, or friend to chat it up with. hell i’ll go hang out with you. just try and chill.
if you need help with any specific matters that are causing you grief, don’t hesitate to ask and i’ll get back to you immediately.
hang in there. it really does get smoother in upper years.
cheers,
askastudent
