and of course, god save the queen!

Hey, I’m a grade 12 student who has applied to Engineering Science at St. George campus. I have not received an acceptance letter, however I’m wondering what the odds are that I’ll get an entrance scholarship and how much it might be. I have a top six average of about 94.5% and lots of extracurriculars on my SPF. Any guesses? Thanks

Well I can guess, but any such wager would be utterly uneducated. The requirements for admission scholarships at UofT are conspicuously concealed, a pretty commonplace practice at this fine institution of ours. Usually students have to have a mid-high 90 average to be considered for such an award, but the exact numbers are left uncovered.

A more active stance might be of some benefit, and here are some examples-

First of all, apply for OSAP (or any other provincial financial plan, but OSAP I’m familiar with). Newly admitted students who apply on time are automatically considered for the Queen Elizabeth award, which is quite a substantial amount.

If your OSAP assessment doesn’t cover your financial needs, you can apply for UTAPS, which is sort of a UofT supplementary financial assistance program. Can’t hurt to apply.

Once you’re in, go straight to the Faculty of Engineering registrar, and ask to meet with a financial counsellor to discuss your options. Remember, when it comes to squeezing money out of the system, pro-active is the word!
