Why is it that no two course sections seem to be the same difficulty level? Don’t profs get together to discuss course material and testing structure?
An excellent question and the answer is clearly NO! Profs are allowed a substantial amount of leeway to select their own course content and to focus on those things that are their own strengths. A general outline for courses must be followed, but how much time is spent on a particular area and what can get axed is a gray area. Profs can also select their own text books so this another way in which they can adjust the relative difficulty of the course. The simple truth is that some profs are harder than others!
So the onus is on you. You have to find out before hand if your prof is going to be easy or sent from the pits of hell to drag your GPA through the floor. Check out the anti-calendar (ASSU Office at Syd Smith 1st floor) and talk to people in upper years of your program. If you can’t find anyone to give you good insight into profs, then let me know and I’ll find someone in your program.
Cheers!
