Hey I was wondering what you think is a better course ANT100 or SOC100? I’ve been hearing mixed reviews about both, and I honestly don’t know what to take. Help me askastudent, or just shake that magic 8-ball and give me an answer!
wouldn’t that be cool, if i did have a magic eight-ball that answered all my questions? like “hey aska, is frosh week fun?” and i’d just reply “my sources say no.” or “hey aska, will too much tequila give me the courage to tell my roommates off?”, “all signs point to yes.”
but any ways, ANT100 and SOC100 are kind of similar. both huge classes taught in con hall, both easily attainable social science credits, both classes taught for huge numbers of first year students in a survey-course format. i know for a fact that SOC100 basically gives you your marks in a series of multiple choice tests, and you have to have a minimum 67% to continue on in the program. ANT100 on the other hand, has a combination of tests and essays – but you get to study pop culture, artifacts and maybe even margaret mead. (who is cool.) i guess it depends what interests you most. the anti-calendar gives ANT100 a 65% retake (although prof. kalmar is good…gets better in upper years), and gives SOC100 a 57% retake in one section and a 77% in another. i guess you could maybe audit the classes and pick the one you like better? or better yet, “concentrate and ask again.’
cheers, askastudent
