commerce,  innis,  residence,  switching,  woodsworth

see ya there

Hi,

I have just received acceptance from UT Commerce Innis College, but I wasn’t guarenteed in the Innis Residence…I looked at some of the posts and I saw some guy last year had same situation as me. Anyways, I did contact the Innis Residence by email by the way even though I didn’t get a response yet. Oh yeah, Do you know why they send response so late? I have been waiting 2 days now with no response.

Also, Is changing college (like right now) possible even though I am already accepted? because I would like to change it to Woodsworth college since Woodsworth residence also has single rooms for every students.

Other than that, Is UT Commerce a difficult major to deal with? I had head from others, the class average is somewhere from 50% to 65% which seems very low.

I truly feel for you and your distressful encounter with the innis residence conglomerate. I can just tell you there were issues with that.
Anyway, I think you can request to switch college. The question is will you be approved. I’m not sure what the situation is for Woodsworth, like how they are spacewise. What you need to do is contact woodsworth’s registrar’s office and ask what their procedure is for college transferral. You’re probably going to have to write a letter. I know that might deter some people but you’re stronger than that. Nevertheless, even if you are granted a switch and get into woodsworth I’m not sure that you’ll get into their rez. You’ll have to ask them and see what the situation is right now.

And yes, commerce is difficult. Or so I’ve heard. Most students take commerce as a complete program and not as a major because it’s so demanding. And then before you know it you become one of those people in white shirts and shiny shoes loitering outside of the campus shop, disturbing my Friday morning coffee. So next year if you see someone looking at you with disdain as you consume your power-bar while fixing your greasy hair, please, don’t be a stranger!

Unfortunately, woodsworth is horribly evil and will not accept you into their residence unless you were originally accepted into the college. And they don’t even consider students accepted to their college unless it was their first choice. I ran into this problem last year. Try UC or New or somewhere if you are intent on switching colleges to get into a different residence. If innis doesn’t let you in you will get shafted to 89 chestnut which is really not that bad… for artsci at least. Heavy drinking occurs amongst all students almost literally 6 days a week, which might not be the best fir commerce students.

Commerce is really not that difficult if you put in the effort and study. You will have to keep certain marks in your first year classes to keep your guaranteed admission but it isn’t too big a hurdle. 67% for ECO100 (Economics), 50% for MAT133 (Math), 67% for RSM100 (Management + Accounting) and a 2.0 CGPA. From personal experience, I would say people have the most problem with economics. I would say the workload and amount of hours a class per week is less than quite a few other programs. So nothing to be too scared about.

Also at U of T most courses has a class average of 67%-69% since its graded on a curve.

Yah i applied for woodsworth like 2 days ago, and i had to cal them today to find out that they are full. They said they would waitlist me, but what does that mean? do i even have a chance of getting into the residence? Is there anything else i can do?

if you didn’t get into Woodsworth Residence (because it is a small res and it does get full fast), then you will be put into 89 chestnut, if you have a 1st year housing guarantee

anonymous #1 – actually woodsworth still accepts students even when they do not list it as their first choice. they also accept students who may have special circumstances regarding their admission.

nervous – if woodsworth has put you on the waiting list for residence an opportunity may arise that someone decides not to take it. if thats the case, you might get it if your relatively low on the waiting list.
