I need to find a decent apartment near campus.
Where can I find a job where I can earn at least $5000 so I can afford to live downtown next year.
There is all of this talk about how U of T student have access to better jobs; that is such crap.
I earn $8.50 and it doesn’t look like I will be earning any more.

are you still living at home? so you need to move out so you need a place so you need a job. ah the story of my life.let’s solve this problem from the inside out. firstly, go to the career centre. start looking there. for jobs paying more than your crap-ass 8.50, try either offices or manual labour. an insider’s tip: working for UofT is like being a civil servant. contact facilities and services to get unionized high paying jobs doing grounds work, parking, flower planting, landscaping…just talk to them and stay in touch so you can snag whatever comes up. also workstudy positions pay $9 minimum and there is nothing sweeter than working on campus and not having to work more than 12 hours a week. word on the street is that working at robarts is where all the money is apparently. so, there are a few places to begin.
after you’ve quit your crap-ass job, and have enough saved to get you into a good situation, then go here to help you with your housing problem. try looking for places that are not right downtown. for example, a half and hour walk or half an hour bike from campus is a nice little exercise to burn off that student diet. or you can try somewhere slightly east or west on the subway line, like Bloor West Village or the Danforth, because rent begins to go down over there, and the neighbourhoods are funkier than downtown. it’s handy to get a place with all of your utilities included, and it’s easier to find a place if you’re looking in april rather than august or september, for obvious reasons.
lastly, moving out. my best advice to you is buy a blender. and live close to a tim hortons and a diner with 24 hour breakfasts. these two important features can save your world.
