    Transfer Question Two.

    Hey,
I?m in my second year at UTSC and I?m majoring in English. I was just wondering, is it possible for me to switch to St George for my third year?
    Thanks!

    ???????????????

You can. It’s good that you are?considering transferring for your 3rd year because the maximum number of credits that you are allowed to transfer is 10.

Click here. (Man if this website got a buck for everytime I referenced them, they would probably be able to buy Rob Ford’s? 911 tape)

Go through all the steps and it outlines all the need to know shiz and then you can submit your application right then and there.

Just keep in mind that the deadline for you internal transfer is March 1st

may your halloween costume be better then mine (good luck),

    Transfer Question One.

Dear Askastudent,I wanted to internally transfer from utsc to utsg. I asked the registrar about the transcripts thing, and she told me
I didn’t need to do anything because I was already a uoft student, so I don’t need to send my transcripts in or anything. So all I needed was to make the account, fill in the info, and pay 90$ which I did. But then how will they get my transcripts and stuff if I didn’t give them my student number or anything? Im confused. Thanks for reading thing! Much appreciated!

    ———————————————

    yo yo,

Although it will be an internal transfer, it is still like applying to another school. You will need to apply and be accepted in order to transfer. The perk of transfering internally to another campus of U of T is that you don’t have to physically hand in a transfer because they are already on ROSI, which is connected through all three campuses.

I would suggest going on and reviewing your application. I was a little shocked that they wouldn’t ask your for your student number, so i went on and started up the application process.

hmmm … didn’t think that one through … hopefully they don’t ship me to another campus … oh well

and in the “Personal Information” section they ask you for your student number. Its under “Toronto Student #”. So what I would suggest is that you go on and review your information and make sure everything is filled out and correct.

After you have been accepted to the St.George you will have to transfer your credits.

Feel free you write back if you have questions concerning other parts of the transferring process.

    and a video for all

The Fear of Halloween … and Commerce

So I’ll try to not include the entire story of my life… but basicallly:I want to get into Rotman for Business Management but my entry marks probably won’t be amazing.. compared to the dozens of high school students who are major over-achievers entering with over 95% averages, that is not me.

I actually got 66% in grade 12 English.. I missed about 50% of my classes and several major assignments. I am retaking this class so I should have at least 85% when I apply to universities.
With these marks: ENG4U-85%+, Calc. 80-85%, and 4 other grade 12 courses around 85-90%… DO I HAVE A CHANCE??? (looking at an avg. around 88% realistically)

I know re-taken courses are never a good thing.. and English is a pretty important subject. It sucks because when I apply myself I tend to get over 90% on assignments and tests, but I often fall behind on small assignments which brings my grades down. Classic under-achiever.

I also know there is a personal statement that must be submitted… What’s the deal on this?? How much do they really care about it?
I don’t have great extra curricular achievements either. I volunteered for Girl Guides 3 years ago in a town over 2 hours away for which I have no references anymore, thats a good one right?
I painted the nails of a few demented patients at a nursing home for a few weeks as well, am I selling you yet?
Besides those… I have had no success in anything really. Don’t play sports anymore, don’t play music anymore, don’t do art anymore, so I’m pretty much the opposite of what they’re asking for.
But I can write a very persuasive essay, highlighting my achievements in the film industry in Toronto. I am one of the youngest people to work in the industry in my position (I began as an office production assistant when I was 16, most of the others are at least 23) and in the summer I worked on set on several TV shows and a very large feature film basically directing extras on what to do and stuff.
Would I be able to sell myself with a charming, intuitive, business savvy personality or am I dreaming?

So please tell me, should I give up my dreams of attending Rotman/any business school? (I actually would prefer Ivey, or an American school since I am a dual citizen… But I’m trying to be realistic)
I hope you reply! If I get accepted I’ll have 20 questions for you. OH and something pretty important>>>Do you think I would be able to get into Innis College + residence?? I’ve done a fair bit of research and it is my favourite apartment style res. The idea of having a roommate, communal/coed bathroom and mandatory meal plan makes me want to vomit.

    Thank you so much!!!

    ———————————————

Ok so before I answer this question, I think we should just take a moment to consider something else important at the present time. Halloween. Yes I said it.

So what do you guys think comes up when you search Best Halloween Costumes? Well here are a few of the best and mildly apporpriate ones:
    1) a toy army man: pretty wicked, reminds me of toy story

    2) chinese food: its a baby in a chinese food box, really … you can’t go wrong

    3) lobster: what’s with people making their children into food? I’m sure a psyche analysis would come up with some interesting answers.

    4) lego: I wonder if they can click together

    5) Zipper lovin’ : You know when you pinch your chin in your coat zipper. This is what happens if you keep going.

Ok, so lets start this off with the most important part. The marks. The admissions range that the university gives out to prospective students is “mid to high 80’s”. They are the only program that also emphasizes that “Rotman Commerce will only accept first attempt courses”. So that little issue with your grade 12 English might prove to be a little bit of a pain in the ars for you.

This is what the Commerce site says:

“We welcome applications from students with excellent academic records who are involved in extracurricular activities.

All Rotman Commerce applicants must submit an on-line applicant profile as part of their application. The applicant profile gives students an opportunity to tell us more about their abilities, strengths, and interests. We believe that marks alone do not provide a complete picture of an applicant’s potential.

Students will be asked to submit a 400-word personal statement. This statement is an opportunity for students to highlight their community engagement, while also showcasing their communications skills. We will consider this information – along with marks – when making our admission decision. ”

Based on that, I would think that your involvement in the film industry will be your advantage. You can briefly state any of your ‘volunteer’ work, but it just sounds like they want to get to know you a little bit – picture, speed dating. Your strengths are most likely going to come from your invovlement in film.

In all honesty, I’m not entirely sure what your chances are of getting in. I think the least of your worries are the personal statement and the most would be your english grade if they don’t take the repeat ones. I would give commerce a call and see what they have to say: 416-978-3339

Last (finally) but not least, Innis is of the more difficult colleges to get into because it is smaller but decisions are generally based on grades and yours seem pretty good. Make sure you mark it as your number one or they won’t consider you.

Hopefully these answers will suffice and that you won’t be detered to one of those dread ivy league schools

So if I Survive The Zombies, I Want to be a Teacher

Hi I have a question about admission in 2012-2013. I want to apply for the concurrent education program in utsc for Math/Chem/Phys. What was the cut line for this program last year and is there an early offer?

    ———————————————

    Hey teacha teacha,

This is what the UTSC concurrent website has to say on the matter:

    • If you are applying directly from secondary school (into Year 1), note that last year’s admitting range was in the low 80s.

and yes u of t does offer early admissions if you are super de duper awesome.

  • UTM

    Fresh Prince of York? Utm?

Hey aska, this site is amazing and so helpful. I have a question about the Psychology programs at UTm and at UTSG. WHich one is more math based? or harder lets say? I am doing a victory lap and my marks and pretty good except for math. I want a BSC not a BA. ALot of people are telling me to go to York because it is much easier to get into and it specializes for their psychology program.
What is your opinion? i live much closer to Utm and it will be cheaper for me than taking the go bus every day.
    thanks a bunch!

    ———————————————

    Yo yo

I think if you had a gun to my head … i know … intense … I would tell you to go to UTM. Its not often I give blunt answers, but you just seem to bring that out in me. Here’s my reasoning and you are free to ignore it… but it’s good, so don’t.
Below I have included the course requirements for both UTSG and UTM. The only math-ish courses that you will have to take are Stats and Eco. Saying that, those are the requirements for both schools.
Now, if you want to chince out a little (and we all do it), I would chincing by going to UTM and not St.George instead of hauling your ass all the way to York.
First of all U of T is consistantly ranked in the top 20 schools in the world. When you graduate from U of T they don’t emphasize what campus you did so on.
So to enter the major, you must have a 75% in the the Psy100 at the St. George campus and a 63% at the Missisauga one.
Also I’m a little comfused what you are saying about York. U of T does offer a Psych Specialist in Science. Im going to assume its harder to get into than Yorks but probably waaaay better.
Although word on the street is that York students are better looking.

    UTM Requirements:

    First Year PSY100Y5
    Higher Years
    1. PSY201H5/ BIO360H5/ ECO220Y5/227Y5/ SOC350H5/ STA218H5/220H5

    Waterloo Graduate Schoo

Hello I am an undergraduate student at University of Waterloo and got some bad marks at Waterloo I am looking to improve all my marks for the last two years (5 year program). I am really hopeful about U of T Graduate Studies in Electrical Engineering as it is a well known university but another reason is that it close to my home.I have read online that U of T looks at the last two years GPA to be above 75% (?). I know this is a minimum requirement but what are my chances if I apply with letters of recommendation and internship experience? Should I also do a GRE?

    Please let me know.

Please also keep my email id confidential.

    Thanks

    ???????????????

    Whaddup Waterloo,

So do you have the minimal grades? You did a little jaunt around that information … are?you at least attempting to get them?

I would say that in most situations ?they don’t look at the application unless you have the minimal grades required. Saying that though, maybe you are super awesome in all other areas.
I would give the Electrical and Computer Engineering department a shout Telephone: 416-978-3122 (graduate studies inquiry) and see what their requirement emphasis is on … and while you’re at it ?maybe ask that GRE question. Other graduate programs in the engineering department do not require it, but in the application process they do have a spot for it to be included if you have taken it.

I hope this answer was remotely helpful,

    Dopping Leaves, Dropping Courses

    Hi,

I’m a first year student at UTSC and I’m currently taking a Physics course. However, since Math isn’t my strongest subject I decided to take the Y course and so I have to take the second part of Physics next year since it’s only offered in the winter. I never took Physics in high school either so I’m already doing pretty bad right now, and I’m sure I’d benefit if I took it next year. I’d be down to 3 courses for this term if I do this. Would it affect the OSAP money I’m getting next term if I drop this course now?
    Thanks!

    ———————————————

    Hey heeeey

It’s like looking in the mirror at my first year self – well kind of, if we alter the whole UTSC and Physic things and pretty much every other detail minus the dropping courses.
It’s good you’re staying in at least three courses (and I’m assuming you are taking a relatively full course load next semester) The registrar office can’t release OSAP to you unless you are a full time student (3 credits or more).

I personally didn’t tell them that I had dropped down in my course load, and my OSAP remained the same (sneaky sneaky) but I also am not going to tell you to do that and have them be all angry and refuse you OSAP in the future. And then you won’t be able to pay for second year, and have to drop out of school and live in a soggy box the rest of your life. Dramatic.

I would suggest popping in Admissions and Awards and just informing them of your course change.

And speaking of popping in …maybe also talk to your Academic Advisor before you drop y0ur course. From experience, courses aren’t easier in the future. There is always something that is going to cause you difficulties. Eventually all the dropped courses build up and you find yourself in your 6th year at U of T. In a year long course, there is plently of time to make up your mark. BUT when it comes down to it, it’s up to you.

    forever devoted,

    We Like To Transfer Transfer

    Dear Askastudent,

I was wondering if you knew that the CGPA for sociology is to transfer from UTSC to UTSG. i heard that the CGPA now.. is raised up to a 3.5-3.7. is that true? I was wondering if you knew what the CGPA requirement is. I’m kind of afraid. I’m in 2nd year right now. Also, it’s october 15th already, and i still don’t see the application posted up on the uoft website. Also, how will they look upon your first year marks? Cause I’m kind of scared for that.

Anyways, thanks so much for taking your time to read this.

    ???????????????

Guys … what is going on at UTSC. I’m receiving a surplus of transfer questions. Is Scarborough that scary or is St.George just that awesome?!

Here is the information that the U of T admissions website says about an internal transfer into a social science program. If you don’t want to read all the information below it pretty much says that in order to transfer you will need a CGPA of 2.5 … and higher for more competitive programs. To be honest the 3.5-3.7 sounds like bull.?I haven’t heard that the competition is that high at all. So i wouldn’t be scared. ?
Also if you want to ignore the majority of the info, scroll right to the bottom and there is a link telling you when you should apply.

Arts, Humanities and Social Science programs are offered at all three University of Toronto Campuses .
    • You are an Internal Student if you previously registered at the University of Toronto in a degree, diploma, certificate, Pre-University program or as either a Non-degree or Visiting Student.
    Admission Requirements:
    • Admission consideration is based on your CGPA and most recent annual GPA.
    • Program prerequisites must be met at either the senior high school or university level. Applicants to limited enrolment programs must present the required first year university courses.
    • U of T Scarborough programs require completion of a Supplementary Application Form (SAF).
    • The Faculty of Arts and Science, University of Toronto St. George Campus and University of Toronto Mississauga will consider internal transfer students who have a CGPA of 2.5 or higher.More competitive programs require higher CGPA.
    • University of Toronto Scarborough will consider applicants who have obtained a high level of academic achievement. The majority of successful applicants have an average in the B range. High demand programs such as Co-op programs, Concurrent Education Programs, Joint Programs with Centennial College require strong achievement. Internal applicants who have an average in the C range may be considered for other programs. For more info, contact U of T Scarborough Admissions and Student Recruitment Office.
    Information About Transferring:
    • Transfer credits are assessed after admission has been decided. Credits are considered for degree courses taken at recognized degree-granting institutions. More information will be provided at the time of admission.
    • Successful applicants are admitted to a program area. Admission to a specific program is determined by the Faculty/Department once transfer credits have been assessed, and will depend on whether or not program prerequisites and grade requirements have been met.
    Additional Information:
    • Every Faculty of Arts and Science, University of Toronto St. George student is a member of one of seven colleges. You must indicate your college preferences when you apply. Selecting a college is a personal decision unrelated to program choice. For information about what to consider when choosing a college, and for some quick facts about each one visit the colleges website.
    • If you are currently enrolled and have a strong academic record, you may be eligible for a provisional offer of admission.
    • If you have completed more than 10 full credits towards an Arts and Science degree, you are not eligible to transfer to an Arts and Science program.
    • If you already hold a degree from the Faculty of Arts and Science (University of Toronto, St.George Campus), University of Toronto Mississauga or University of Toronto Scarborough, you may complete a second degree only of an alternate type (e.g. if you have a B.A. degree then you may not complete a second B.A. degree). If you are admitted to a different program, you will be considered for a maximum of five credits (one full year) from your previous studies.
    • Successful applicants are admitted to a program area. Admission to a specific program is determined by the Faculty/Department once transfer credits have been assessed, and will depend on whether or not program prerequisites and grade requirements have been met.
    • If you have completed more than one year of university level study, your application will not be considered for the Journalism program at the University of Toronto Scarborough.
    • If you wish to take courses to qualify for a graduate program or other professional programs, you may want to consider applying as a Non-degree applicant. For information about Non-degree studies, please go back and select ?none of these apply to me? and then select ?I want to be a non-degree student?.
What if my first language is not English?

How and when should I apply for Full-time or Part-time studies?

If you are still a little concerned, you can give your registrar’s office a shout and make an appointment with an academic advisor. They are just bursting with information and need able-persons to spew it out on to. Its really not as gross as we just made it seem.

    Happy transferring,
    aska

UTSC Bites The Dust … Again

    Hi,
I’m a first year student in University of Toronto Scarborough campus, just because while I applied to UT in high school, I miss the deadline of St.George campus(I’m from Alberta, there is so many differences of University).I didn’t chosen my major yet, but I’m sure that will be something related to science. I been think about pharmacy or computer science or environmental science(If I stay at UTSC I will chose this one), would that be easier I transfer to St.George campus in the Second year? I’m just confuse about the process and the college(in UT) that I will go to.
Please give me more information. Thank you!Sherry

    ???????????????

    Hey Sherry,

The sooner you do it, the better. When you do a ‘transfer credit check’ they will ask you what Subject POSt you would like to apply for, if you have the requirements you?will be admitted.?The sooner you do your internal transfer, the less hastle over transferring your credits you will have.

The admissions website actually has a pretty wicked resource. Click on this link. It will take you through a couple of questions and then tell you exactly what your application process will be, your requriements and the deadlines to expect. Man who ever came up with this resource gets a highfive from us! <imaginery hand slap>

Now for the colleges. You will most likely get to choose that in the transferring process. St.George is home to 7 different colleges. This decision really doesn’t dictate your life too much, especially since you will be in second year (and I’m assuming not in residence).

Here’s the university’s say on college and HERE IS OUR SAY (studies show that people are more likely to click on things that are in capitals).

I hope this helped in you in some or every way!

Magic 8 Ball, Tell Me My Future

Hiya Aska! Hope you’re well and survived your midterms.I’m currently a first year student at Innis college, and I commute (3 hours daily, pain in the arse). I’m planning on living on residence in my upper years, but I’ve heard that Innis is pretty exclusive when it comes to accepting res applications from upper years (unless you have “connections”/are a social butterfly), especially if I didn’t even live in res in first year. So, is it possible for me to apply for residence at a different college? I was thinking apartment-style at either Woodsworth or Vic. And not Chestnut, because I’m broke as heck. Thanks a million for your advice!

    ———————————————

oooooh heeeell, I hear yah brotha (on both the commuting and defastatingly poor front)

You are correct with your assumptions on Innis (well the limited space, I’m not sure about these sneaky “connections” you are referring to). Innis has even limited space available for their first-year students, but my magic 8 ball is coming up “outlook good” for you.

    side bar ted:
there are 20 answers inside a magic 8 ball:

    ? It is certain
    ? It is decidedly so
    ? Without a doubt
    ? Yes ? definitely
? You may rely on it
? As I see it, yes
    ? Most likely
    ? Outlook good
    ? Signs point to yes
    ? Yes
    ? Reply hazy, try again
    ? Ask again later
? Better not tell you now
    ? Cannot predict now
    ? Concentrate and ask again
    ? Don’t count on it
    ? My reply is no
    ? My sources say no
    ? Outlook not so good
    ? Very doubtful

There is double the amount of positive answers to negative. So now you know who to ask if you’re going to pass a test and about that potentially unexpected pregnancy.

You can apply to other residences outside of your college. Here’s the downlown on your preferred choices:

    Woodsworth:

Their statement on your situation?- “The Woodworth Residence houses upper year, Faculty of Arts and Science undergraduate students from any Uof T college”.
They don’t have the application set up for next year (because, let’s face it, even the school lives semester by semester) but you can check out the process and prepare yourself for the anticipation of months of checking back for application deadlines.

New College (word on the street is that they also?house upper-years from outside of their college):
    Here’s their information.

Those two were the ones that specifically state they house kids outside of their college, but here is the list of ALL the residences. A 5 sec call to the ones that interest you the most will determine if your sort are welcome in their area.

The student housing website for U of T also shows a surplus of housing. Check it. And, yes, for some reason they think that a university student would like to buy a house. Odds are if we could afford to buy a house, we wouldn’t be on a “student housing” website. Come on U of T … lets think that one through a little more.

    Rent-a-Frat

Hey i just came across this website because i thought you might have the answer to my question…anyways i was wondering if you know any frat houses that allows people to rent it for the night. But the thing is, do they have a rule on how old you have to be to be able to rent the house?

    thanks hope you reply 🙂

    ———————————————

    yoyo,

Rumor has it, and I’m 95% sure that my little birdy didn’t tweet me a lie that you can rent out the fraternities. As for the age limit I’m not entirely sure. I can imagine that if the party involves a clown and pin the tail on the donkey, they won’t be down for it.

I was just checking out a forum online and there was talk of them allowing parties for high school prom after parties, so the age issue might be settled with a hand full of cash or mommy/daddy’s credit card.

Here is the U of T Greek directory … so click around, email around, call around … get around (kidding … kind of)

George Brown You Lookin’ Fiiine Tonight

I stumbled upon this site and i was wondering if you can help me out with a major confusion i have about transferring from university to college. Some background information about myself.
I completed high school with an average above 85%. I have also taken University English and Math with an average of 75% and 94% respectively. But while i was in university i failed two courses with an F and two courses with a D. Eight of my courses however are between a B. My cumulative GPA is 1.88.
My question for you is, will my failed university courses and my low GPA affect my chance of getting accepted to George Brown college for Baking Pre-Employment, Architectural Technology, or Architectural Technician?
If it does affect me negatively, what can i do in order to get accepted to one of those programs?

    Yours Truly,
    Elle.

    ———————————————

    Hi Elle,

Apparently this information is hidden deep in the depths of the batcave, or some other super awesome underground place. But here’s what I could dig up. When transferring schools they check out your entire academic history. BUT when transferring from university to college they generally look at your high school marks.

You can also explain your situation from first year. Whether the low marks were due to personal issues or just a rough transition.

In any case you seem like quite the smart cookie and I’m sure everything come up Millhouse for you.

    love and smoothies,
