aska – pick philosophy! parents to aska – die, just die.

Today I signed up for university.
I have a bunch of interests, so I picked some artsy stuff, some science stuff, all sorts of stuff.
It just so happens that in the case of UoT I picked neuroscience, thinking that since arts and science is a big faculty, there’s a lot of flexibility. Doesn’t seem that way now that I’ve read the fine print. I like science, sure, but I want all that artsy stuff too. In fact, I think I’d love to go to UoT, but not for science. Not at all.
    So,
    1) what are my options? can I wait a few days for that OUAC thing to process, then go in and totally rearrange my picks for universities?
    and
    2) Now that I’ve realized how the colleges selections work, I think I may have picked the worst possible run-down of colleges. Please tell me I can fix this. I picked Vic 1st, trinity last, and the rest was random. I think the one with the ikea res was high up. No good.
Again, can I edit gritty details on my application, like college choice? and hopefully program choice?

wow, neuroscience. that is impressive. as a first student, whatever category you’ve been admitted to when you gain acceptance into U of T is actually pretty meaningless. as a science student, you may have a better start time, but it won’t stop you from signing up for whatever classes you’re interested in – artsy or not. at the end of your first year, you’ll sign up for something called a subject PoSt – which determines your major. that may limit your course options in eventual years, but you can always change it up if you have the right criteria.

    cheers, askastudent

i saw the sign, and it opened up my eyes

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get into any of my science seminar choices, better yet there were absolutely no spaces left in any of the science seminars by my 10:15 start time. Instead I chose “The Sun and Its Neighbors”, which seems like a good alternative. However, it’s only a half-credit course and I was thinking about enrolling in “Stars and Galaxies”. “Stars and Galaxies” is a second year course but, it does seems to complement “The Sun and Its Neighbors”. I am worried that because “Stars and Galaxies” is a second year course it may be too challenging for a first year student, although by reading the anti-calendar and the course description it does seem to be about the same in difficulty as “The Sun and Its Neighbors”. Am I wrong in thinking this?

    Location: URGENT

just wondering if there are any science courses that would count for my distribution requirement that are drop dead easy. I don’t really care for sciences and desperately want to get this requirement over and done with asap. i know that the university does outline a bunch but they most got crap ratings on the anti calendar. are there any u recommend or based on what you’ve heard. how about ZOO 214??? HELP! i have to register on ROSI in 6 DAYS! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

    > thanks askastudent =)

hey aska…i took ant100 last yr and i just wanted to let you know that it has no essays…you DO get to watch lord of the rings in class! and then some other not so super interesting movies but anyways…ant is kinda tricky course…the tests are simple and straightforward except trying to read all the readings…well it would be more efficient to just jam the book down your throat…but anyways…just wanted to clarify
now…you warned against scientific revolution…uh oh…i decided to enroll in hps210…it seems decent on the anti-calender but what is the great aska’s response…i just need a half credit fall hum…ack
and as far as that health care–uhip me thinks?–if we need it and need some proof we bought it–i hear there’s a purple card or smthg?…how do i get about to getting it >

yes, “pre”requisite really does mean before!

Hi! I am wondering…….I don’t have any OAC sciences because the teachers at my school were retarded. So, I ended up applying for humanities and social sciences at U of T and was accepted. Now I want to do sciences. How can one switch from humanities to life sciences after one’s first year? (because i don’t expect to be able to change anything in my first year) I did take calculus and all of that delicious math in highschool-but no sciences.
I don’t know what to do-I was planning to take BIO150 in my first year anyway (and consult the zoology undergrad department, as they said….although I emailed them weeks ago and got no reply-do i actually have to go see them!? i don’t get it) but how do i switch? and what would my second year end up being like? oh bother I am confused
(BTW I GOT INTO INNIS RES WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!)

stuck in the middle with PSL302…

I want to die right now. I’m stuck between whether to drop my PSL302 course or stick with it. My mark stands at a pathetic 53% at the moment. If I drop it, i’m left with the option of taking it in summer school which means stay in toronto (i’m from way out of town), waste more money, let go of a well paying summer job and also the possibility of going to Europe. Or, I take the course in my 4th year or the summer after 4th year or totally drop the idea of getting a human bio specialist. If I don’t drop it, chances are I won’t make a 70% and my GPA will be at a all time low which will not impress MBA schools or any graduate schools. If you were me, what would you do? Part of me wants to drop the course but if I do, will I do better in my other courses because I have less work or will they still suffer? Are summer courses that much easier as people say they are? HELP!

    back for an encore

After completing a degree in biology, i’m going back to take a second undergraduate degree (in engineering). I have found that biology is pretty much useless unless you go into medicine (which i don’t want to do) or go into research (after completing masters and PhD – which is a long number of years). I found that I really have an interest in engineering but I feel like a screw up by going back to undergrad while most of my friends are headed off to their masters. So, am I a screw up, or does this happen to other students? Any advice to someone who is going back for a second undergrad degree (a couple of people told me to go to a psychiatrist because they thought I went insane for even considering going back and taking another 4 yrs of undergrad).

the most noble profession…plus you get paid!

Hello, a new comer to Canada need help!!! I am totally confused now! Some smart people go to medicine because doctors can make tons of money; Since I have got great marks, people suggest me to study medicine. but i am not very interested in medicine, what should i do??? I don’t know whether i will be better off or worse off in the future? Besides, i have met some very lousy doctors since i came here, they don’t worth their salary!!

    degrees make bad toilet-paper

i am having trouble deciding what subject Post to study. How would i get more info about course programs? ie.what is involved, why students like/hate it, what is it’s use after i graduate. I am currently in life science and am starting to think this is the most useless degree. Other degrees may be useless to but they probably are not as hard as lifesci. i’ve heard of possible jobs from pro-life sci administrators however most of these require post grad, and if you don’t have the grades, what else can u use life sci for asides from expensive toilet paper?
